Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
Nice build, I'm liking it.
About the bumper, the width looks good in the pics, ties in the widening of the bed to the point that people might look at it and know something is different, but hmmm? What I saw was to fill in the empty areas between the bed and the bumper, adding the diamond plate to the bumper and following the fender profiles. I like that the bumper would give some protection to the wide fenders if you were backing up and had a blindspot oops.

I would have sold it back then for about $1500 which was what I had in it at the time. I am glad I didn't. Now I way to deep into it to do anything but finish it. I also "see it both ways" which in this case is builders point of view and what a passerby might think is "best for the truck". I believe (like most things in life) there are always at least two sides to every story. If I open up a build thread and check it out I try to always post a "positive" comment. I know I appreciate feedback. If I open up a thread where someone has deliberately asked "What do you think" about a particular item ie;paint, wheels, slammed, lifted, etc. I will tell them what "I think". As to the rear bumper I thank everyone for their response. I hung it last night and would look at it and say "it's ok as is', then walk to the other side angle and say "no it needs to be narrower. I guess I will just let it be for a while. Not even sure it will always live there. Just wanted to hang something there to cover the hole. I also have a receiver hitch to go underneath. Not sure I will do that much hauling, but would not feel super comfortable bumper towing even though they did it for millions of miles before the receivers came along. Not to mention the drops available. I guess my "moral to the story" is this; "If someone asks for opinions they should not be offended when one is given that differs from their opinion". "If someone does not ask for "Your Opinion", but just says hey look what I did. Then maybe we should use caution when giving opinions, or just look for the positive and try and point that out to keep the discussion civil. Someone coming into a thread a month after you remove two tons of motor home and cut out 60 inches of wheelbase out of a frame and saying "you should not have done that". I think they should keep their d*mm opinion to their self. But as always that's JMO

Two more weeks then time to Rock and Roll on that dually. I saw the bed floor you scored in an ad you are running for the bed sides. Looks solid.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
Do you think this is too much rake?
Wanted to see what all the fuss is about with these trucks being dropped in the weeds so that's what I did. Literally dropped Homer right in the dirt. Seriously though, needed to work on wiring, headers, tranny lines and all that stuff up front and Homer sits so dang high in the air, so I took off the front tires and gave him a little altitude adjustment so I can reach all the stuff without climbing on a ladder/crate.

That's certainly one way to get easier access. Makes getting under it a bit of a challenge I'd imagine.

Pulled the exhaust manifolds off this weekend and got some Hooker headers installed. Sounds like such an easy thing to do doesn't it? Took hours and a couple trips to the parts store. Bought header bolts, too short. Took em back, longer ones. Would not go into 3 of the bolt holes, hit the tubes. Little drill work on the flange and finally got em in and bolted up. Changed out the master cylinder and brake booster last night. For a change, it went smooth. Sure was nice the push rod attached outside of the firewall with easy access.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
Hey have you thought about a rolled pan instead of a bumper? could locate the receiver hitch behind the plate if you wanted to tow something. and I like the rake.... Not so much the wheels, I bet the sparks would fly when you stop....Hey all kidding aside. think you will have it at good guys this November? I know what you talking about the headers. just those few bolts, pain in the back side. is that a 67 or 68?? 68 has to go thru the smog test. Its time to take mine thru this month.

I am planning to have it ready for Goodguys. Might take it on Friday, Chevelle on Saturday, probably pass on sunday. Homer is a 68 but no smog with Classis insurance. Still not sure on the seat, so you get first dibbs.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
Well, yes and no. in that I mean this;
I had hung the doors and front sheet metal to make sure I could align the doors etc. after chopping the top off & on. Well I had the doors close enough I knew "I could get there from here". Well, my bodyman came out last Sunday and said, "they're close, but let's get em closer", so off came the bumper, front fenders, and we started massaging the door openings. Before he left they fit the hole much better. we will be starting on the final bodywork this weekend. I will take some pics and post em up as time allows. Hoping for a lot of progress this weekend.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
Well ole Homer moved a little forward this weekend with the help of my bodyman friend Corey. Young man has some serious skills in the body and paint work field.
My goal was to get the inside of the roof that I grafted onto Homer the same color as the rest of the inside of the cab. I didn't want to restore the entire enterior at the time, only paint what is necessary to make the new roof and cab back match. took a bit of time to get the A pillars 100% straight and all lines good but it came out awesome. Here's a few shots.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)
I am liking where you are heading with this... I skipped through alot of this build so the question may be redundant but are you putting a Fleetside bed on this or a flatbed...
