1 ton 4x2 vs 4x4 frame.
Is there a difference between the frames on a 1986 C30 and K30, I know 1988 and newer has a different frame.

Re: 1 ton 4x2 vs 4x4 frame.
So would it be better to just cut the frame off of a donor truck and attach it to make it 4x4? Is there a thickness difference between 1 ton and 3/4 ton?
This is what ORD showed as as difference on post 88 trucks, so I wasn't sure about an 86. http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/88-...tm#2WD vs. 4WD |

Re: 1 ton 4x2 vs 4x4 frame.
They are the same thickness, however from the cab forward they are different. The c30 frame is 1.5" shorter than the k30 frame to accommodate the 2wd crossmember and engine mounts. So, you cant just swap over 4wd components. They will not bolt up. So the ORD engine crossmember will not bolt up and if used will hit the oilpan.
If you want to swap over to 4wd, pick up the A-Bomb bumper form DYI4X with the front spring hangers, the shackle frame hangars and 8" shackles. Then grab the leaf springs of your choice, remove all the 2wd stuff and go from there. |

Deal with the engine and trans crossmembers, then link it. Would be easier and miles ahead
