Drip rail leaking.

I suppose that saying the drip rail on my '86 Silverado is leaking isn't quite accurate, but I don't know how else to describe it. The I can see a sliver of light between the cab an the rail. When it rains, water goes between this gab and comes in at the top of the door (a bit).

How were these rails (gutters) attached to the cab from factory? How should I seal it back up so that the rail functions properly?

When I redid mine, I used 3M 2 sided decal/trim tape as a gasket. I found some that was the same width as the rail.

I ran a tiny bead of black silicone on the back of mine then trimmed off the excess when it dried.

Both wonderful ideas guys, thanks so much. I may try running a bead of windshield sealing butyl at least temporarily but I love the double-sided tape idea - I love creative solutions like that!

Yeah the 3M 2 sided tape is great but I needed cheap, quick, and easy

This is what we used at the dealer level. I can't remember if that is how the factory did it.

One thing about the 3M tape you only get one shot to get it right. I found that out when I used it to put my fender emblems back on after paint. When it touches,, its stuck.

What I did was apply the tape to the rail, leaving the backing on the truck side, laid the rail on the truck and just started a screw in the middle on top and on the side to alligne the rail. Then starting at the front of the rail I peeled the backing from between the rail and cab starting the screws into the roof as I pulled the backing beyond the holes. Leaving the screws loose until all were in, then tighten them up.

When you get up to the first two screws installed for alignment, pull them out and pull the backing beyond the hole.

Make sure to use some sort of sealent on the threads when you install the screws.
