My 67 short stepside

Finally got my first truck back after nine years. Sold it nine years ago, needed the money and was moving. Title is still in my Father's name. Cool I thought. The guy just let it dit outside in Houston weather. Finally found it. Planning a full restore with blown ls or 572. Not sure yet. Truck is in bad shape.

Thanks Jesse. New to this forum. I did a 68 Camaro DSE over at lateralg. Then sold the 68 DSE. So it has been a few since we have built anything.

The super low bagged c10s are cool and there are really awesome examples on here. I think I am going for a more 1990s stock looking resto-mod if you want call it that. The Camaro I built was a full Detriot speed engineering car built in my little building. Sweet car somebody wanted it and I needed the money. The Camaro is in Virginia now.

I want something to handle like the DSE Camaro did but not sure if that is possible. DSE gas a gen x universal clip but my frame has 79 z28 clip welded in already. So I need a new frame to start with and sell the current frame.

Probably purchase a roadster shop complete frame. Haven't decided have talked with Justin at Scott's too. The roadster shop truck and chevelle handle up there with DSE cars from what I have heard. If I go RS frame I will go mast motorsports blown LS. If I use new factory frame, I will go 572. Both automatic trans with paddle shift capabilities. More old school 90s build. Mast is just down the road 40 miles so they are close.

There are so many options people like us can do these days.

Bought this truck in 1986 with my Dad with men. I was 14 at the time. It was a three speed column shift 6 cylinder. When I was seventeen we dropped a 383 stroker in it. Shortly after it was totaled by a drunk driver. We bought it back from insurance company. Many years later after marriage and kids it was sold for some cash we needed. As luck has it, we own it again. I look forward to the journey with my two sons. 17 and 13.

Think I have decided on an LS engine and auto trans. The 572 sounds like a beast though. Heard one at super Chevy, awesome sound.

Yeah I felt bad but the bed and frame were not original. The guy I sold it to in 2005 lived in Houston and just set the truck outside and the humid, salt air killed the truck. It is home now and after some cosmetic surgery it will get a new better frame and a new bed.

Just purchased all the sheet metal minus firewall and smooth cowl. Getting those from Justin at Scott's Rod.

Truck needed roof panel, complete floor pan, outer rockets and both can corners. She will be better than new body wise pretty soon.

Just sold my 86 lifted shortbox Chevy 4wd yesterday and trying to deal on a pretty solid 70 stepside shorty, won't know for sure till my buddy gets back in town from work on prob Monday, wait and see. It has a small blk but has a big blk for me, so waiting. Still have my 400 plus hp S10 but just not the same.
Will be interesting to watch your build.

I love the square nose chevy trucks, but the 67-72 are my favorite. I guess since that was my first truck when I was 14, that need to have one in the stable is strong. Finding my original truck nine years after is incredible. I had a 87 step side for about ten years and I wish i could find it too. Hope your deal falls into place for you like my 67 did for me.

Hey Zach, should find out tomorrow on the deal, see what happens, have had prob 10 square bodys, 2wd's and prob 1/2 4wd's and as for the 67-72 think 1/2 and half on about 10 now too, just love those years in a 4x4 but a low rider stepper would be cool, especially a shortbox, way to many longboxs out there, but as usual a deal will take care of itself if it is supposed to, if not then something else will surface by itself. My main thing is the fun building them and putting my spin on a build then maybe a few cruises then on to build something else, all fun especially with trucks. Getting older now at almost 54 coming up so would like to finally keep a project instead of "always" building, maybe this stepper. Waiting to see your ideas.

I've got a 5.3 "LS" with a turbo in my 70 C10.

Drives like a stock truck, cruises effortlessly down the highway, did Power Tour and temps reached a whopping 177* driving and idling through the 90+ degree heat. I can't recommend the LS enough, especially with boost.

The combo through an unlocked 4L80E and 9" rear loafed to 475 rwhp, 480 rwtq on 9lbs of boost. It's a blast to drive too, but admittedly it doesn't sound like much.

I built a Dse pro touring 68 Camaro back in 2010 that we ran a nice 468 big block and t56 magnum six speed. The car had a great sound did everything I could have wanted, but I was told by several that even a mild LS is so much smoother and just better overall. I have rugrats so I will go LS and paddle shifter auto trans. My boys both want to cruise with me and the six speed would be in the way. With the twist machine paddle shifter it can feel just like a manual tranny without the shifter in the way.

Please add pictures of your engine. Trying to get more ideas. I am thinking mast motorsports since they are right down the road. They have some awesome engines. Up to however much money you want to spend. Even with a good frame, I do not want to waste the money on horsepower if we cannot get it to the ground.

That is the weird thing about an LS engine, same hp small blk or big blk just seems to sound better, always found that strange, but the Ls same cubic in with sure lick the old school engine, me well just like a big block in everything I can, cost is comparable or cheaper than building an Ls. All in what you like.
