Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a front bed panel with a wood floor and a steel floor?

Basically it extends down lower about 0.8" to support the wood floor from below along the front. Often you will see "conversions" where the shorter metal floor panel is bolt on top of the wood incorrectly.

Are you changing bed floors or just have a deal on a panel? If changing, you'll need more than a different panel. If you are thinking about going with a new panel, buy Mar-K's version. I tried 2 different imports with my wood floor. Neither fit right. The Mar-K was a drop-in.

Want to say there is a conversion angle out there that you weld to the existing panel and cut the unused lip off. Try Mar-K or Bruce Horkey's sites.

But as FirstOwner69 pointed out there is a lot more than just the front panel to perform a conversion. You'd need a suitable front panel, all the crossmembers and a wood floor rear sill (it is cut lower for the wood thickness too). Strips and hardware along with the wood itself round the numbers up tp a staggering amount.

I already bought the cross sills and rear sill for the wood bed. My front panel is in decent shape that is why I was wondering if there was a way to use it. The steel bed and all the sills were in bad shape so they needed replaced anyway and I like the look of the wood bed. I called one of the popular aftermarket places and the person I talked to couldn't tell me what the difference was in the front panels. This is a great forum with a lot of info and talented people. Thanks again for the help.
