is my cab too far "gone"

Hey guys I have surface rust on the cab of my 64. There's a hole above the driver door as pictured. The rust goes all around but is only thru in the part pictured. Queston is, is it diffucult to repair the hole that's pictured and once repaired do I leave it be, or does the rest of the very dark surface rust need to be cut and repaired? If so I guess the roof of the cab is trash?

The only way to really tell how far gone it is is to have it blasted that way you will see everything and not just whats on the surface.

Blasting will tell you the ugly truth about the cab.you can also poke at it with a pic to give you a vague idea of how bad it is then decide if it's worth blasting and fixing or just time for a new cab.

It's rusted done to the base of the drip rail. I may just weld in a patch to help it out for now.

I'm not sure what to do. Just cut some out and shape a panel and weld it in. Or let it sit and wait on a new cab in a few years

My flux core gasless welder sas it will weld down to 22 Guage sheet metal. Withe .030 wire do you guys think this type of welder can handle this

I have the same thing on mine. I'm going wire wheel all the old seam sealer out around the whole drip rail, treat the metal and apply POR-15 then apply seam sealer. As far the hole I'm going to cut out the rust and weld in a patch and call it a day.

At the very least I'd fix the hole to keep the issue from getting worse than it is. At least it would buy you some time to decide what you want to do down the road.

When I click on the insert image icon it says enter the URL? I have the pics on my PC and Android but how the F$%k do I find that? I am not a techy. lol

Ok so on the bottom of the screen go to " go advanced"

Then go to manage attatchments. From there see where it days choose file? You can choose up to 5 I believe. Once you choose the files you want, look to the right and click upload

Once they are uploaded, click close window on the bottom of the screen. The previous page should now be showing. You can now write a message or just post a reply and the pictures will be there since you just uploaded them

Sweet truck bro, do you have any picture of the rust you need to repair?

I think it is repairable. You could cut a section out and then form a piece to drop in. Maybe hold it in place with a couple of magnets or something until it is tacked in. .030" wire seems heavy to me, as I am using .025" IIRC and that is a standard size.

I got some good rust panel repair tips on you tube and also Eastwood sells a panel repair kit that they have a video on.

.035 or 18-20 gauge is pretty much the standard size on the cab sheetmetal.

20 gauge would be .0359

So what exact Guage should i use to patch in the roof? I have .035 in my welder now. Should I switch to .030?
