Installing Edelbrock 500
I have a Chevy 250 that is pretty much stock. Looking to install a Clifford intake, headers and Edelbrock 500. Any tips I should keep in mind? This is my first time doing this install. Looks like I will need to install the carb sideways... Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks! Michael |

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
Doesn't matter how you install the carb. I'm installing mine with the primaries aiming toward the radiator. Dynoing hasn't shown huge advantages or disadvantages on the carb mounting. Keep in mind you'll want a good HEI for that engine. Your now adding alot of fuel. lol

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
I have a 250 in my '64 Chevy II wagon with a Cifford intake, headers and a Holley 390 cfm carb. One tip is to use a factory style, 1 piece intake/exhaust gasket. Use High Temp RTV on both sides of the gasket. This will prevent almost all leaking issues. I ran into that problem with exhaust leaks from the PO. I also had a points dizzy originally and converted over to HEI and it runs so much better.
Here's a pic.

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
I will add that a fuel pressure regulator is just about a must with Eddy carbs, whether its mech OE pump or electric. They don't like more than 5 lbs.. 4.5 is OK usually unless your doing mostly WOT pulls..

Hey, chevy_mike, that's a very sharp-looking engine setup. Just gotta love it!

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
I ran a pump without on regulator on my edelbrock without issues. Though sometimes I may have had issues because the engine would load up sometimes maybe from to much pressure. But for cruising it was fine.

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
haha. Until I gave it the gas. It was either float level or too much pressure. Give it gas and off we go with no hesitation.

Re: Installing Edelbrock 500
I run a 500 Eddy on my 283. They come on the rich side from the factory. (Perormace and dual quad applications). Mine worked bettter after I leaned it out 2 stages in the cruise mode.
