fan shroud
an anyone tell me if the fan shroud is different for a heavy duty cooling (4 core) than a (3 core)? Installed a 4 core radiator in my 1969 C-10 and now fan seems to be slightly to deep in shroud. Everything I can find listed on parts sources says shrouds are the same. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks jim ellis |

All small block 2wd trucks have the same shroud unless it has AC. The difference in changing the radiator from the 3 core to the 4 core is in the fan spacer. You probably have a 2 inch spacer now and you need a 1 1/2 spacer. Hope this helps. Take care, Tom

Re: fan shroud
Here are 2 pictures of the 2 types of fan shrouds for small blocks. The only difference is the depth of the portion surrounding the fan. The picture of the shrouds back-to-back clearly shows the difference. Otherwise, they are identical. Trucks with A/C had 4 core radiators, fans with clutches and used the shallower shroud. I thought non A/C trucks with HD cooling also had 4 core radiators and fan clutches along with the shallower shroud. I trimmed one of the deeper shrouds with a jig saw to work on my 69 with A/C. As I recall I cut off 3/4" or 7/8". It appears identical to my original.

Re: fan shroud
Your water pump affects how deep the fan sits in the shroud also. The 67-72 water pumps are about 3/4" shorter than the later model pumps. I have a similar situation going on with my 69. I have a 350 with the later model water pump and accessory setup. The engine mounts are in the v8 location and it has a 4 row radiator. I am considering an electric fan.
