Re: aluminum radiator opinions!! and tire size questions
I used and Engineered Cooling Products aluminum radiator and Derale dual electric fans.
http://www.speedcooling.com/1967-197...r/prod_38.html http://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-16837 I took some aluminum angle and welded it to the sides radiator, then mounted the fan shroud to that. I'm using stock replacement (aftermarket from Classic Parts) 4 core radiator mounts that I shaved the fan shroud tabs off of to clean up the look. My accessory drive is really close to the fans, just a little more that 1/4" from the water pump pulley. I'm using a short water pump, but a March Performance serpentine drive that has spacers that go behind the pump. I also scooted my motor mounts back 1.25" for clearance, since I knew the accessory drive and fan setup was gonna take up some room. I have no idea how all this fits with a v-belt pulley setup or any other accessory drive. The radiator & fan setup cools fine, I've driven this thing around plenty just recently on 90+ degree days. If engine runs up to around 200*, the second fan kicks on and cools it right back down very quickly. The first fan kicks on at 185*, the second at 200* or whenever you turn the a/c on. These fans pull a little juice when they're both on - when the second fan kicks in the idle goes from 1100-1200 rpm (where it's set) to about 900. As for the 18's, I'm also running them, but my tires are probably what you'd consider rubberbands, since I'm running a 5.5"/7" drop. Pics of my heap are on my profile page here on the forum in my photo albums.
