Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
i strongly advise against cutting springs # 1 and # 2 the best way you can drop your truck and have a good ride is to do drop spindles if you just do springs you will hate the ride trust me i have a 65 its my daily driver and its dropped with just springs the ride is bad very .. trust me do a drop spindle static drop .. ill be doing it in mine once i save up my money for it

Everyone have the same opinion, dropping the rear with springs have the same effect or is it just the front, figured 1" drop wouldn't be too much of a big deal on the front suspension.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Half coil off the stock front springs is right at 1" drop. I did this in combination of 2" drop spindles. Rode great. If you are going more than 1" in front, dropped spindles would be the way to go.
Rear dropped springs is the right way to do the rear end. You cannot cut rear springs due to their design. 1" front, 3" rear should put you about level, assuming your fronts are not sagged big time.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
So cut 1/2 coil off the first half?
Cause cutting a half coil off the second half (after you cut the first half) would seem to lower it more than 1" due to the length between the coils there are different. Is that true?

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Take the end of the tang, draw a line straight across to the other side of the coil. Cut off that half of a coil. This equals approx. 1" drop.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
I wonder if the stock 79 springs have sagged a bit and are actually an inch lower already, or should I just buy the lowering springs and be done instead of cutting or using them how they are

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Drop springs aren't too expensive, I looked it up on ebay, 130 shipped for 1" or 2" drop, that being said my little brother and I had a '65 we put an early 80's crossmember in and we cut a whole coil off. I don't remember the ride being terrible but I was in my early 20's at the time and comfort wasn't really a consideration. I just wanted it to look cool and corner better, not that I achieved the latter but it's what I was after.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Anyone else using this drop combo, debating if I should go lower in the front, I got 3" drops in the rear, 1" drop springs in the front, will this be nose high or should I go lower in the front.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Has anyone used air bags that you add air too just like the helper spring kits on the front end, would this be a big hassle, then I could set the height any time by adding or removing air.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
I put 2"/3" drop springs on my 66, with stock A arms, trailing arms, and shocks. It ended up leveling it out. I feel as if 1/3 may leave the nose up a bit, unless that is what you want.

Actually I want a small amount of rake, has anyone used the air bags that you add air through a line in the front.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
Would 3.5" drop in the front and 3" in the rear have a bit of rake yet or would it look funny.

Re: any 1" front drop 3" rear drop pics
That's what I did with mine. 2.5" drop spindles and 1" drop springs in the front and 3" drop springs in the back. For me, it's a little too much drop in the front. It was perfect at first, and then the springs settled. I just ordered some standard height springs for the front to get it back up a little.
