5/7 drop looks better if you keep the steelies.

Depends on what the plans are. Resale? Static drop & change to disc up front is the most cost effective route. Be sure whatever spindles you get will clear those factory wheels. I would certainly keep them on it.

Re: Brought this home last night...

Yeah, this truck is not meant to be a permanent fixture at my house. I'm considering starting with a 3/5 static using springs, drop springs and and adjustable trackbar just to make it more fun to drive. However, I've never had one of these trucks with bags so I'm mildly curious about it, but I'd have to find a way to do it on a budget.

Re: Brought this home last night...

If you're not going to keep it, just a static drop is the way to go,...... But!!! remember these are different from the 67-72 body styles that you're used to, I use a 3/5 drop on the 67-72 all the time, but on 60-66 3 inches in the front is not enough for the lowered look (rake) if that's what you're trying to achieve with a 5 inch rear coil, a 3/3 or a 3/4 drop kit is what I would recommend for a slight drop if you buy a kit, or just buy 5 inch rear coils and cut the front coils, on the 63-66 you can cut a little more coil on the front than a 67-72 and still have a decent ride. This is what I really recommend.... if you're going to sell it, But!!!! If you're going to keep it......
Good luck!

Thanks for the info Rene, definetly good to know!! If I use the 5" drop coils in the rear and cut the springs in the front I'll still need drop shocks correct?

Re: Brought this home last night...

I agree. If you're going to sell it, static is the way to go. Bags aren't everyone's cup-o-tea if you will, so your sales market is smaller than if you do a static drop.

Just to give you an idea, I have bags on my 71 with schrader valves to drop it low on the cheap, but they always leak a little bit over time (about a half inch a month). That's not something most people want to deal with if they want to just hop in and cruise. You'll want to either go static, or spring for a full management system.

Re: Brought this home last night...

Ernie

I am running ECE 4.5/6 drop (2.5" spindles, 2" inch spring front and rear is 6" spring). I believe Kevin's 65 is 4/6 (he said they didn't have 2.5 spindles back when he did it.

Drive ability mine is fine, just some places (old back dirt/gravel roads) it is a wee bit low.

Jeremy's LWB 66 is the same drop as mine

I think you got to see them all at Cruising this week.

The shocks are your key to a good ride as everybody knows, I'd try it with the existing shocks first you might get lucky..... If not replace with shorty's.

Is there a disc brake setup that will clear factory 6 lug wheels?

Well, Rx has a new home however temporary it may be. She'll soon be taking up residence on Boris' Patina Plantation.
