Cab changing
Just wondering if anybody has done this before. My problem is that I dont have a way to lift the cab up enough to put it on the pickup. I thought about renting a forklift maybe? I dont have a shop or anything like that. Wondering if you tie some extra strength rope between two trees and put some kind of pulley in the middle. I dont really know. What do ya think?

Some of the foks here have used cherry pickers. They are pretty cheap to rent.

Thanks for the quick replies I think the four buddies idea is probably what I am gonna do since renting a forklift was about $200.

for 200 bucks you could BUY an engine hoist, ppl have used these..takes some rigging, but it works...then you'd have an engine hoist..OR send me 200 bucks and i'll get it off for ya!! (send my fare to get there and back though) hehe

What are you going to leave bolted to the cab. If it's stripped down, two guys can do it. If everything is intact, it's a real b@ll buster. Me and some of my buddies once did it for I guy I used to know. I think there was six of us (pretty good sized guys) and it was tough. That cab was loaded with everything, complete interior, doors, glass etc. If it's a loaded cab, be careful that you don't bend it if you're planning on lifting it from the roof.

I borrowed my buddies camper jacks. One on each side and slide the lip under the cab. Lift, push frame out, then slide shorty frame back under. One man operation. Worked sweet. I've tried the engine hoist and also a couple chain hoists and it's a real pain finding the balance point ect.

When I did mine, basically we stripped down cab, 4 of us lifted
and set replacement cab onto frame, then I got beer out of hidden cooler. No problems

When doing the cab swap it might be best if you remove the doors and as much of the interior as you can. Idone cab swaps on several 73'-87' cabs and 71'on20's cab a couple of weeks ago. It would alot easier on you and friends backs that way. If you injure your friends they might not want to help again. It is time consuming but it think it is worth the effort since you half to get to the cab bolts any way.Good luck!
