Solo Hood R/R

Anyone have advise on removal/reinstall of the hood without help?
Is this even possible?
I didn't realize it would be so difficult reattaching my heater blower box with the hood installed. So, I have to remove the hood, or at least the right side hinge to get the box back on. Truck is freshly painted, and I don't want to start damaging the paint.

You don't need to remove the hood to R&R the heater or A/C plenum/box. Prop up the front right of the hood with a 2x4 or similar from the top of grille (at hood bumper). Use a short piece of 2x4 between trailing edge of hood fender. Unbolt hinge from fender and push forward enough to allow heater box to clear. Or some similar combination of wood block placement...I cannot exactly remember how I did mine, but it will become obvious when you do it. I believe this is described in the Service Manual.

Thank you sir. I checked everywhere on the message board looking for the solution. The service manual is the only place I never checked. I should've known better.

I actually have done this a couple of times. What I did was place a thick moving blanket on the cowl and stuffed between the cowl and the rear of the hood. then I used a 2x4 to hold the front of the hood up and carefully unbolted the hinges from the hood. the back of the hood slid down on the hinges resting on the blanket covering the cowl. then somehow I managed to pick the hood up and take it from the truck. would be much easier with a 2nd person.

I have to do this soon! It is getting cold! It took sooooooooooo long to get the
hood straight it is hard to touch the bolts. Chalk and mark the sucker and giver I guess.

Thanks for the 2x4 tip I will try that.

Yeah, I stuff bath towels against the cowl and onto the fender and prop the front corner
