12 bolt is a 12 bolt is a 12 bolt?

Are the insides of all 12 bolts the same? A friend has a 12 bolt posi unit he wants to get rid of, but he says he bought it for a Olds car. Is there a way to tell if it will fit my C-10?

Thanks.

It will not if it is for a GM car. The truck 12 bolts are different.

Short answer, "No"...There is a "truck 12" (12T) and the "car 12" (12P)...And to confuse you even more, Oldsmobile 442's have a unique cover and gasket. That Locker will not work in a 12T housing. The unit you want is the Eaton 12T Posi that looks like this You need to call these guys with the year of your truck to insure the correct carrier... http://www.ringpinion.com/ When you call Randy's, give them the part number on the Locker. They will be able to tell you exactly what it is and what it fits. PS. If you plan on driving your truck on the street, a Locker is not what you want.

the guts of the Olds 12 bolt dont interchange with either the truck 12 bolt or the chevy 12 bolt, all three are different.

Try a PowerTrax. I'm using one in my truck and 69 Camaro. Here's a video of it compared to a posi.

Here's a tug-O-war between PowerTrax and limited slip

You can see the one I installed in my build thread.

I've used several Powertrax with no problems. Even in a mid 11 sec car.

But when I suggest them with friends or they come up in conversation everyone balks at them for some reason. Not sure why but my oldest is going on maybe 15 years with 0 problems.

Re: 12 bolt is a 12 bolt is a 12 bolt?

I just put an Eaton Trutrac carrier in my truck last weekend, it took most of the day on Saturday but was not hard to do at all. The hardest part was getting the shims in and the backlash right while working under the truck but it was not bad at all. Just glad I did not pay double for someone to install it.
