I have a 67 lwb c10. Has front power disc brakes. I assume it's off of a 71/72 truck as the control arms look to be factory and not a 73-87 design. I have looked all over and can't find a number on the ball joint anywhere. Would it be safe to assume I need a 71/72 ball joint? No one in town has one so I can't compare them. Thaks for all the help. I need to get pics of my truck posted along with all the others I have randomly taken pics of.

Order up a couple of ball joints then take 'em back if they aren't right. part stores make as many mistakes as we do. we are all human so get them and give them a try.I'm sure they have some sort of return. I live in a super small town and have had a shop for a LONG time so the parts store guys know me and they all try to help out. If times for me aren't too bad at the end of the year I give the ones that help me most a gift card or something. That really makes them hustle when I need help.

That was my plan, but napa is the only one that can get the in less than a week. Suprisingly, they are only 1/3 of other parts houses. Point of story, Napa isn't big on ordering stuff and having to send it back....

If you know NAPA is like that then don't give the guy at the counter more information than he needs to have to do his job, just order the part and if it isn't the right one you take it back and order a different part.
In this case if it is 5-lug you can assume you need the 71-72 ball joint so just order it and go from there.

You can also swap 73-87 balljoints into the original arms.
So don't rule that out.
The LOWER balljoints are the same on 71-72 and 73-87.
So the deciding factor is the upper balljoint and the outer tie rod.
That will tell you what spindle is on the truck.

If I tool pics of the tie rod, would that help? I'm gonna try to get the ball joints out today, but have a long list of stuff I have to get done. I do have a 85 in the garage too, so I can see if any of it looks the same.

Pics won't do any good.
The difference is in the size of the taper that goes through the spindle.

Take it apart. Get the rotor off and look for a part number on the spindle.

Is your truck lowered as well? If so, it will likely be one of three, GM, ECE, or McGaughys. They *could* be a no name knock off, but I'd start by looking for a part number. Guessing sucks.

It's is lowered some, but I'm pretty sure the coils are just cut. I'm eating now then gonna go out and take it all apart. Wouldn't hurt me to take the rotors off and check wheel bearings. I'll let you guys know what I find. I'll snap some pics while I'm at it.
