Shorter Aftermarket Column?
My '66 was an old column shift, as many were, and since has been converted to floor shift. The column needs to be replaced, as it is binding, and slowly coming apart, but I was looking to go shorter.
From what I understand, the OE column is about 32" long. I was curious if anyone has had a bench seat, with the cab gas tank, and put in a shorter "universal steering column." I feel as if the column has extra room to spare.. I am looking to get a little more elbow/lap room Any advice, or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Shorter Aftermarket Column?
I shorten a stock column for a buddy. I took 3 1/2" out which moves the wheel forward BUT is also moves it down. Since he was putting a 15" steering wheel, it wasn't too much of a problem with leg to wheel space but if you are going to use the stock wheel, it could get really tight. If you get a tilt column, it might not be that big of an issue but figured I would point it out.
