Re: A big NO NO
This is my old knock-around truck that was bought new by my grandpa back in 1967. ONLY new "anything" that he ever had the money to buy. I wish I had the $$$ to fix it up, but I don't right now. It's rusty and beat up, but it drives like a Cadillac. It has an oil leak, but that's all that's really wrong with it mechanically. It's been outside under the sun and rain it's whole life.....that's not fake patina! Mama doesn't like riding in it with me, but I enjoy driving it when the weather is nice and cool. We drove it to my son's football game last week and I'll be in it often in the upcoming months since hunting season is coming up. It's a good old Ford truck, built when they still used metal instead of plastic.

OK, since we've gone this far off topic, I don't want you guys to bear all the guilt by yourselves
I agree with Special K those were beautiful...and still are in my eyes. They were "The Chick Magnets" before we knew what "Chick Magnets" were. We just knew if you had wheels like that you had a date. We used to name them back then too. Some of the names wouldn't be politically correct today, but things were a lot simpler back then. Here's a couple of my early rides;

My Ford. Chevy powered. Mopar front suspension. Chevy bench seat. I'm like Leon ... I just love old cars and trucks. Not limited to a certain manufacturer.

Re: A big NO NO
I have my favorites across the board. But, when it comes to owning, I have my preference. In my eye, of the American mfgrs, GM has universally made the nicest looking, most understated, reliable, and/or cheapest and easiest to keep on the road vehicles with the best parts support. That manufacturer is the one I chose to own. I also like that back in the day, with Fords costing more than Chevys, they were seen as more for the white collar middle class while Chevys were the working man's brand. They are (were) like the American version of the Volkswagen...the people's car...designed to get more Germans mobile and for the people to be able to keep them mobile. That is what GM Trucks have done for me. I started off with an old truck, no payments, and never skipped a beat. I can like what I like without feeling threatened by others liking something else. So, never got caught up in the pissing match.
People are different and outside of brand preference I like a consistency in my stock. If I had cattle you would see one breed in my pastures. I'm really into the GM trucks, have been for eons, and I've always liked seeing the same brand in the driveway. I see a person with no preference when I see a hodge podge of brands. Yeah, I can appreciate going by a place and seeing nothing but Fords. I love it. I guess I like to see specialized interest. Now this is talking traditionally. These days, with not much difference between build concept or even style, nothing being all American, and the stuff I like all falling into the classic/special interest group, it's a different story. But part of my interest in vehicles has always been about tradition and me carrying out my preference is still here. These days we see some modern daily driver with possibly a classic or parts/project vehicles to the rear or in a garage with open door. I can see a consistency with mixed classics. I have neighbors with all makes of muscle cars. One thing I have noticed through the years is I'll see as many stone solid Chevy stock in as many driveways as a mix of Ford and Mopar. Is the the lug pattern? Seriously, if they have those two they don't have Chevy. Like they don't have a strict preference except they don't want no Chevy. I have been observing this, in my area for many many years around here. I see all Mopar and all Ford, too, but not as much as all GM. I'm talking 4+ vehicles, not your average home. I just get something out of being committed to a make. I've even going more all GMC these days. The preference thing is just a part of it for me that goes back to the first days of when I took interest in specific vehicles and who owned them. I used to like the more rare and unusual vehicles. Had me some Studebaker trucks. But when I realized I needed a practical vehicle I could most easily get into the daily grind with I looked round at guys I knew and the rock steady ones doing the best ran Chevys. After owning a '69 Dodge I had difficulty getting parts for before it was ten years old, and seeing guys with Fords returning wrong parts over and over I went with GM. I went with 71/72s for being new enough to run with the rest while still being an older style that would always look good. The parts were so available I stocked up on them while I could. Finally, I was born in '55. In '55 the Chevy small block was born, so the Vette got it's first V8. The '55 Chevy car was a knockout, GM introduced the Cameo/Suburban Carrier, and there were both Advance Design and Task Master styles in that one year. It just seems meant to be that I am a GM Truck guy.

Re: A big NO NO
A pair of Fords on my 'like' list, if I could afford to branch out and buy all my favorites. I have no desire for a Mustang, but love the car they are based on

You would be correct Tim. The first one is the '36 before I started the rebuild (for the 3rd time), the second one is the '36 today (actually I have it pretty much put together now but no current pictures), the third is the '34, the fourth is the '39, and the fifth is the '57 Retractable. I will put the Model A and the '69 Ford pickup in the next post. I have owned the '36 since 1960 when my Father-In-Law gave it to me. I was 18. I am now 72, almost 73 - 55 years ago Wow where does the time go.... LockDoc

If you don't like pre-war Fords, you don't like hot rods.
