My 4x4 60 build

I guess this truck is turning into a build.

I bought it sight unseen and they said there wasn't much rust, PFFFFT….

So far I have swapped cabs to a big window with no rust, rebuilt the tailgate, added proper wheels and hub caps and a rear bumper along with fabricating bumper brackets since the frame is narrower than stock in the rear.

I have donor doors, tailgate, bedsides and other misc parts. I will be using the bottoms of doors to replace my speaker hole cut doors along with changing out the door skin area around the mirror, since they welded up the old holes.

I have a windshield that I'll hopefully be installing soon, now the only thing that is stumping me is the damn gas gauge!!!

Now I just need to find tow hooks and a rust free hood and I'm good to go!!

It seems like more of a recycling project, I hate to see a good truck go to waste and I don't like the expensive thin Chinese aftermarket sheet metal.

I'll have a lot of metal and other parts that I won't be using so if anyone needs anything just ask, I'll most likely be donating for free. The donor tailgate is in great non dented shape.

White one is my daily driver, all stock, no rust, bondo or dents. There isn't even a wire out of place on this truck. 235cyl, powerglide.

I rebuilt the motor 2 years ago and put a bigger cam in it but I can't tell the difference, still gutless.

Sold the camper last week.

Re: My 4x4 60 build

If I can find some cheap short bed trailing arms, I'll make this long bed into a shorty.

Re: My 4x4 60 build

235 would be less gutless with more fuel and spark. Splitting the exhaust would help. With the cam all you have done is make the engine try and breath harder through a coffee straw. lol

I've always thought about doing a dual carb set up but I love the stock look on this. Would it make that much of a difference for horsepower adding dual carbs and header?

I did however toss the points and add a Pertronix.

Dual carbs and a header will give you about a 20 hp increase. Plus it will sound cooler. That's the most common setup.

Re: My 4x4 60 build

I have a camper headed my way from Idaho right now but not sure if I'll want to keep it for my 4x4, it may not look right. If I don't keep it then I'll be selling it very soon if anyone's interested. Maybe I should wheel and deal for a pair of tow hooks.

Re: My 4x4 60 build

I need to find a 4x4 salvage yard that may have tow hooks.

Does anyone know if tow hooks were factory or aftermarket?

Re: My 4x4 60 build

I rewired the gas gauge and sending unit a few weeks back and the gauge still read full. Today I took the gauge cluster from my other working truck along with the fuel sending unit and connected it to my blue truck and everything seemed to be working perfect. I also tested blue gauge and sending unit on the working truck and both unit and gauge are junk, so I guess I need to find a gauge and sending unit and my troubles will be over.

Classifieds, here i come.

Re: My 4x4 60 build

I bought a few extra parts this weekend. After this 4x4 build I really need to liquidate my pile of parts.
