Word of warning for anyone replacing a fender. If you refer to the Haynes manual for this and they say you have to remove the hood, they are full of crap.

I received some new drag slicks from FEDEX I won on Ebay. I think I stole these things. Hows $102 for a NEW pair of Goodyear 27.5X12.0X15 D6 compound? These are stiff sidewall slicks that should work well on heavy trucks. I'm mounting them on 15X10 truck rallys that I recently purchased.

did some general clean up between my two trucks-my dad and uncle who are helping me with this like to make messes and it was getting to a point that we started to lose track of things so some policing of the situation was needed.installed the tilt column from 74 into my 78-its installed loose right now b/c it started to rain hard this afternoon and i didnt want to get drenched.so it will get tightened down after the wiring is hooked back up.pulled the bad tranny out of my 78 and took the pan with the drain plug off it and put it onto my tranny.nothing major but every little bit helps.

went yesterday and picked up my 465/205/Hydro clutch setup from justinf, and today worked on my buddy's non-running '94 Firebird. i've got to make a 2 1/2 hour drive home here in a few minutes.

Heck, I finally decided to wash mine. I very rarely drive it and it hasn't had a bath in a couple months. Really been deglecting the old girl. Haven't really been motivated to do anything lately. I got some plans for things I want to do, but that's about all they are, is plans.

I replaced manual operated window cranks with power operated units, including the power locks in both doors today. This is great on a pre-76 Blazer as it was not an available option, but they fit nicely. I had purchased the used operators and wiring harness from a fellow member.
The only trouble I ran into today is the power actuator for the locks wouldn't push the lock opened or closed. I think there is a lever that is necessary between the actuator and locking mechanism, not sure. Also, was only able to operate with direct current from the battery. Havn't figured out the wiring harness wiring connections to the fuse panel. I have a thread on this board and I'm sure someone can help me figure it out.

I re-painted my rally wheels, and took the hard top off to put the soft top back on. I actually wore shorts today.

I worked in the garage on my 454 project I purchased from Tracy Focht here on the board. I have it all torn apart and am currently smoothing the block clean of all casting marks. I plan to get it to the machine shop by tuesday. Buildup is going to be all forged. I need to get the block cleaned and checked. I am not sure on what I am going to bore it to or stroke it?? I am thinking a 468??

All I did was to wash mine and take a few pictures. Of course it rained on it this morning...

I bought a vacuum gauge tester, and a tach/dwell meter. Played around a little with both of them to tune my carb. Then I realized I really had no idea what I was doing... So now I'm on the board to find some info on how I should use them.

I had a long discussion with my father-in-law about completing the body work on my 87 and shooting a good coat of black primer on it before the All Chevy/GMC Nats in Pigeon Forge. If I can get it completely smooth and at least all in primer it might get a little more interest if I decide to part ways with it while I am there.

Well not on my truck this weekend but I rolled up to Tulsa and worked on my bish's truck. Got Greg's Gauges and cluster and dash back together and put his new head unit in for him. Got a pic of his "low" truck too hahahahahaaha

SEVEN HOURS TO REPLACE EXHAUST GASKET! notice that was not plural.
For a laugh we pulled up the hours on the shops estimat program. 2.75 hours to change this side. Yeah right on a new engine maybe, 454 is the 88 has blown manifold gaskets on both sides. My buddy is a pro mechanic and said he would lend me a hand at his shop. First I knew I had a broken off bolt into the passenger side head. Well what I failed to notice was there was two broken off. SO start taking it appart and all three of the flange bolts broke. I was prepared and had all new hardware. So a total of 5 broken bolts to get one manifold off. Had to lift the engine about 6 inches to get the manifold off. The air tubes stick WAY down into the exhaust ports. So that had it's entertainment. Drilling the two in the head went well once we took the inner fender out so we could get a strait shot on it. The three on the manifold didn't. Ended up drilling and tapping the two that went all the way through. The one that didn't was a blind hole. We had both heard of this trick with the torch where you could burn the bolt out and not hurt the mainifold. We didn't think we had anything to loose. We were already down to drilling and tapping so as long as we didn't over size the holes seemed like worth the try if it got use done fast. So I said let try it. Well it didn't work for us. What it did was is harden the cast iron. We fried drill bits and couldn't get it to tap. Finaly said screw it and over sized it and had to weld the stud in. Crossing fingers that it will hold. It is much quieter and as long as the welded stud holds I'll run with it. If it lets go I have one idea and if it doesn't work then I'll replace them. Looking for a set of headers now to see what out there. I'm going to have simular problems with the driverside. It not leaking nearly as bad yet so plenty of time to see whats out there. I wonder if somebody has a set that will bolt to the stock Y pipe? Rest of the exhaust is in good shape. My buddy says to check out the Doug Thorely tri Y shorties.

I dug into the Blazer again.
I don't know if you recall, but I put a new engine in the Blazer last fall, and couldn't get the TBI running lean enough to emissions. I think maybe I just wasn't letting it warm up enough. Seems to be running a BIT rich, but not horrible. Have to get everything straightened out and test it. I put on new Edelbrock valve covers Farted around with the temp sender. Have fun, Brian |
