Three on the column modification

My truck came with the three on the column and I'm switching to an auto. So I was wondering about removing shifter handle and rebuilding as an auto. I've seen where they cut the linkage levers off. But was looking for an alternative to buying a new column, also looking for a source for tall hump transmission covers.

Can't help with the column, but the high hump will have to be bought used. They don't reproduce them. If you pay the subscription fees you can post a want to buy add in the classifides. They come up for sale there pretty regularly.

Re: Three on the column modification

I just converted my 3OTT to a TH350. I bought a cheap Auto Column and rebuilt it. Curious, why you want a high hump- going with a floor shift?

Take a look at the following article - it describes how to use your existing 3 speed column shifter for an automatic transmission. Looks easy to do.

Re: Three on the column modification

The truck is a 68 Short wide. It had the 3 and 6 combo new when I took over the project the previous owner wanted a big block in it. So I got a big block turbo 400 convo going in it. Wanted to use the high hump so I could get a little wiggle room. I'm looking to save money by modding my 3 speed column to save money.
