Powered running boards, 1972 c20
Hello all !
I am new to the site and have never posted a question here. I would like to install powered steps on a 1972 C20 I am restoring. 2wd, long box. Has anyone done this ? and If so which model # and which manufacturer. Naturally I know there will be some mods to be done. Just looking for details on someone elses success. Thanks so much for any details. John. |

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
Hi Willie, Thanks for the response.
Open the door, step goes down. Close the door step goes up. I have them on my F150 and thought they would be a super nice touch on my older re build. I am very new to the concept of this forumn, aploogize for errors in protocol or other. Please keep the info coming. If anyone out there has done them , id like to know. Thanks. |

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
They require differential coolant to run properly, I have seen them!
Seriously they have been made on some vehicles lately, large suvs, some larger trucks. I think he is looking for info to do a custom modification. |

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
Hello John,I'd think that you could get one off a wrecked truck in the city someplace like aimes or kildonan auto parts might have one. I'm sure it would need modding to make it fit but I'm sure it could work.

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
Hey guys,
I am happy to buy a new kit , possibly amp as previously suggested here on line. A set of "powered steps" as corrected. While I have thought of a single hoop step, or "Nerf" bar with or without extension, I would really like to do the drop down powered step. Please advise if someone out there has done it alreday with suceess, and more importantly can warn me of possible pitfalls. I would prefer not to work the sarcasm angle. John. |

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
I have not seen them installed on early trucks. They are not cheap but for a fabricator they do not look terribly complex to duplicate

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
Thanks Bigdav160 you for the pic.
I know the powered step product and I know that there will be custom fab required. As previously mentioned I have a current truck with it from the manufacturer. I am hoping that a member here perhaps has already picked any of these produsts and installed them on an older truck. I am a new guest on line here, Guidance and knowledge is what i am looking for, and I do appreciate all the positive replies. Thanks again. I do not need an answer today but will continue to check in. And when i figure out how to post a pic of my truck , I will. J. |

You're among friends here, but be prepared for good-natured grief.

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
I saw powered steps like that on my father-in-laws truck last week, it blew my mind (I don't get out much). Good luck on your project, I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
I have power steps on my motor home and I've been looking at them and thinking about making one for the passenger side of my Blazer to make it easier for my wife to get in (it's a pretty good climb). I'll be following the thread to see if anyone has already come up with something.

Re: Powered running boards, 1972 c20
I have researched this for our van.
The Ford F150 Platinum series trucks come with them. If you research some of those, you MUST have the Ford computer to operate them. I would ASSUME you could bypass it all if you are good with electrical, but it may be very in-depth. Also, many of the Fords have problems with the steps jamming or getting stuck in a partial position or the motors burning out. They ARE expensive. Even from a salvage yard. There are so many problems with them, that folks are pulling them from the yards as fast as they get them to fix the ones still on the road. You can buy aftermarket steps. I first looked at these through 4 Wheel Parts and they have multiple brands to select from. However, you must select from their given set of choices, then modify from there. There are pros and cons. They add more moving parts and complexity to your vehicle, which is just something more that can go wrong. On the other hand, they are kinda cool and very convenient for those that are vertically challenged or have a disability. Good Luck! Post your solutions!
