Can't catch a break!
Okay so 3 years ago all my wiring under the hood melted and my sagnaw 3 speed went out
Well 3 weeks ago I got it back on the road with a fresh rebuilt transmission. Well today I was in 2nd gear and it started to shimmy HARD. I stoped at a stop sign, took off in first and about 3 feet I hear a real loud clang, clang, clang. That's all she wrote. Tranny main gear is busted. What 4 speed can I put back in it without changeing my bell hauseng. And my drive shaft has that round peace that slides in the tranny. Who do I change that. Thank you everyone |

Re: Can't catch a break!
any 60-66 truck 4 speed will bolt up, the 4 speed driveshaft is longer in between the trans and carrier bearing than the 3 speed. depending on what you currently have you will need to source the driveshaft out of the donor truck as well, you also might need a high hump (with the firewall section) and high hump floor mat.

Re: Can't catch a break!
If it was a fresh built transmission would it be under warranty? Do you know why it failed?

Re: Can't catch a break!
We get mixed up on these 3 speeds, but if you have a Saginaw sycroed 1st gear ,which is not what came in the trk you can hang a Saginaw 4 speed in it's place. If you have a Muncie 3 sp. non sycroed 1st gear you can put a car 4 speed in also but the drive line will probably have to be shortened

Re: Can't catch a break!
Thanks for the offer tj's chevy! And they said the tranny MIGHT be under warranty. They took 2 used ones I could come up with and made one work. He said if it's due to workmanship it's on them if it's a gear I'm SOL.

Re: Can't catch a break!
Make sure you have the U joints seated in the yokes, install all new joints, cheap insurance you have eliminated a possible break down in the future.
