Home made clutch linkage

Previous owner at some point converted my 70 from a 3ott to a floor shifter and decided a piece of all thread was chosen as a suitable clutch linkage..

I realize it is a very safe idea, and that the rod bending when the clutch pedal is depressed is something that most people fantasize about.

I have no problem keeping the shifter on the floor until I do my th350 swap, if I can find another universal shifter, since that is also messed up, but I think there has to be a better option than a piece of all thread.

I am not really wanting to buy a new linkage from LMC or the like since it is just a matter of time until I swap it out.. but until I do, I need something safer.

local parts stores don't sell any kind of universal clutch linkage that we can find, and I know that I am not the first person looking to undo this custom piece of engineering...

Who has had to overcome this, and what did you do? I do not know if the Z is still on the truck, since the original engine was swapped at some point for a Camaro 305. (edit: I am almost positive it is... there has to be something pressing this all thread back)

Re: Home made clutch linkage

Make it stronger with a piece of heavy wall tubing or pipe. One that your all thread fits in perfectly.

Re: Home made clutch linkage

I had thought about some 3/8 conduit.. or something of the sort.. light enough that it wont weigh it down, but thicker than the all thread..

I guess that's my options, but man, that just seems so "engineered"

Re: Home made clutch linkage

Well for 40 yrs. chevys basic design and position for the bell crank and clutch fork was pretty standard. car or trk. I'd would say take that piece on your trk and compare it to trks from the early 60s to late 80s would be a good bet.

Faster and cheaper to just beef up yours since it is only temporary.
