Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Nothing new really. Unfortunately the build is actually living up to its title. Forever.

It is currently serving duty as a parts storage rack. I'm hoping to get back at it this summer once the upgrades are done to the Blazer.

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Well, finally gonna work on this turd! I moved it over into the middle of the shop, and mocked up the body a bit better.

It currently has a PB body drop kit installed. In the interest of simplicity and maybe actually driving it before I freakin retire, I'm gonna remove the kit and sell it. The pic below is with some shims installed to see what it would look like without the body drop. I still love it.

I will try and keep the thread updated if anyone is interested.

Awesome angled shots!
So what part of the PB kit are you taking off just the body drop?

Thanks. Yes, the only parts I'm removing is everything pertaining to the Body Drop setup. Everything else will stay the same.

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Pulled the body off this week so I can remove the body drop kit. The cab is going to a buddy of mines and he is gonna modify the firewall some more since it is currently impossible to get the distributor in and out.

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Just another frame pic with the body off. It sure feels like I'm moving in reverse but hopefully things will head the other way soon. Next up I'm going to pull the engine and change the pan gasket.

Also gonna change all the mounts back to stock 1/2 ton body mounts.

Two steps forward, and one step back.....sometimes that's what it takes to make some progress, . Keep grinding .

Agreed! I've got to get this thing up and running in the next 6 months or so. I have been chasing a sweet survivor truck for about 5 or 6 years and the owner is ready to let her go next year. If this thing isn't at least driving before then, I don't think I'll ever finish it.

Im gonna use this thread as a form of self motivation.

I just started reading your "shifted" build thread. Awesome truck!Great job documenting it. Your thread alone will help me with a ton of my little questions.

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

It's good to see that you've gotten back to it and I'm sure you'll find a way to stay motivated with it.

Earlier in your build I saw your control arms and I was wondering where you picked them up at.

They are PorterBuilt arms. I ordered them directly from Nate. pbfab.com.

The same buddy who is gonna finish my firewall works at a local metal cleaning shop, he sandblasted my frame for this past weekend. Came out very nice!

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Tonight I set it up on sawhorses, flipped it over and started painting it. The paint I'm using is an Industrial self-prime made by General Paint. It is very durable. I decided to brush it on, I know there will be some brush marks but I am ok with that.
I think the Charcoal on the frame will look really cool with the Gun Metal grey of all the bolt ons.

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Dropped my cab off at a buddies for a little more firewall work. He has the is sweet little four door 57' that is almost ready for the road. I just love this car. Although the main body was in excellent shape, the rockers were completely gone, so he repaired them and blended the paint. Turned out wicked !

A pic of the engine. I don't know much about in lines, but he tells me it's just about as built as one can be 👌

Re: Forever project "The Beast"

Got the frames mounted on a rotisserie for easier painting and basic assembly.

The rotisserie is designed and built by a very good friend of mine. It is a very well designed a well built unit.

Finished painting and got the front end reassembled. I really like tha contrast of the two colours of grey. I forgot that I used my swaybar on my Blazer so I guess I'll have to order another one.

Got the rear mounted today. Not really sure if having the rotisserie makes it much easier but it sure beats doing it in the ground. Time to start plumbing things.
