barn find for my barn find

OK, a brief history of my truck. My wifes grandfather bought this truck new in 1967. It was used on the family's farm to haul cows, cotton, kids, or anything else that needed to be hauled. Well my mother in law ended up with it and it was used around their place for several more years until the straight 6 finally gave up then it was parked in the shed. I rescued it a couple years ago and installed a 5.3 4l60 lowered it and have been driving it since then. Well back during Thanksgiving my father in law mentioned having the side planks that my mother in laws dad built for it back in 1967. So this weekend I drug them out and put them back on the truck. My mother in law was about in tears remembering packing cotton down in the bed to haul to the gin as a little girl.

Not many have a neat story like that to tell. Write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the glove box for your kids or Grandkids to read later on....

Re: barn find for my barn find

Great looking truck and great story. My best buddies Father always had a new 67-72 when we were growing up around the farm. I can remember loading way too many bales of hay on those trucks! I have 2 72's now. one is under restoration and the other I found in Kentucky earlier this year.

Re: barn find for my barn find

Cool pictures, I have some sides similar to those pictured. The original owner of my truck built them. They were included when I bought it. I'll have to dig them out and snap some pictures.

Re: barn find for my barn find

Get all the truck stories from family who remember the truck and put them all in the glove box...

Great truck!

Great story and nice pickup. Seeing that rack on there reminds me of the 65 Chevy with stock racks my Dad owned. Great memories.

Re: barn find for my barn find

Luckily my in laws (my father in law especially) are boarder line hoarders. They don't through a lot away. But seeing these on the truck and my mother in laws response makes me think about stuff I have setting around the shop that my kids may remember when they get older. I lost my dad to cancer in 2005 and there is what others would consider useless junk that I have that I can't get rid of because it was his and is not replaceable to me. I guess I'm saying all of this to remind myself that life is short, make all the memories you can with those around you. I wish everyone of y'all a very Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Re: barn find for my barn find

Love your home built side racks, and great story of the truck.
Here's some folding stock racks I picked up off of ebay this summer. Somebody on this site posted the link to ebay auction and I bought them. They were produced by Karle Manufacturing in St Joseph, MO. You can see the factory pin stripping on the back in 4th picture, if you look really close.

Re: barn find for my barn find

My Rack story :
Guy I worked with in late 70's had high wooden racks like those pictured. In the winter he loaded his pickup with green (heavy) fire wood to the top of the racks. Then drives thru downtown Lexington on a Saturday about noon. He pops a tire on the corner next to Rupp Arena and the Wildcats have a basketball game within the hour. Truck has to be mostly unloaded to jack up and change the tire. Traffic Jam ?? you better believe it.
