Which side of radiator to install electric fan probe?

So I got an electric fan with a Derale performance Single fan controller and it has a 3/8 thread in probe for the automatic temperature fan turn on doohikie. I see on my radiator on the bottom driver side there's a spot where I could thread it in. I can't find any water jackets in my intake manifold, it's an Edelbrock performer if that helps. If I thread it into the radiator I want to make sure it's in the right spot so the fan will kick on when the engine is getting hot. The water leaving the radiator obviously will be nice and cool relatively, so I don't want to thread it on that side but I don't know which is which. Thanks for any help

The bottom hose is the exit flowing to the engine, heat rises so the bottom is the coolest part of the radiator. The bottom you refer to may be the drain plug

Mine just slides in the fins where the hose from the engine goes into the radiator. You could get a new thermostat housing with a tapped hole in it and put it there or just drill and tap a hole in your manifold.

I would change the controller to another style. The style that you have is designed to mount into the head. I would either get one that can slip between the fins in the radiator or slide under the upper hose in the radiator. The fans are supposed to come on after the water in the engine exchanges and flows into the radiator. Once the water gets into the radiator the fans should come on, not when the engine temp reaches the set point in the controller. WES

You're going to have to switch to a different kind of sensor/trigger or drill&tap a hole in the intake if that's even possible (if the head is your only choice - change the controller).

The sensor needs to up be near the top of the rad, ideally closest to where the hot incoming coolant gets dumped from the upper rad hose. You -can- measure the outlet temp but you'd need a different range of sender then by 20 degrees or so.

On an Edelbrock performer there should be 2 water jacket openings. One on each side of the Water neck. The passenger side one should be used for the heater hose. If the one on the drivers side is being used for the "water temp" gauge fitting... I'd move that where it's supposed to go. In the drivers side cylinder head.

Then that would free up a hole for the temp sending unit for the fans.

That's what I needed! Thanks Gary. I couldn't figure out why the temp gauge was in the manifold and that was leaving me with no openings, but I didn't know where to move it
