Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

cross member looking good. Re the prop just thought it must have done about 5000 miles but not in use over the last 6 months, imported from USA 4500 miles, up and down the UK 500 miles. Hopefully the next it gains miles will be in real use!

nice Martin, you're making a lot of progress on the truck. keep focusing on the positive stuff and you'll be cruising in that sweet truck soon enough.

Martin that looks stunning work on the chassis, if mark sees this he'll want me to strip his to the chassis lol.

what's the gold bit on the rack, is it just paint or an ali sleeve on the rack?

It's from POL it makes adjusting the toe angle easier as its a left and right handed thread with lock nuts at each end . It was an upgrade option when I ordered my front suspension kit from them .

Thank guys I should have some updates later .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well I said I'd do an update on Sunday so here goes

I was looking on eBay the other night and spotted a Chevy C10 for sale . So as usual you look at the description and noticed that it said , he also had a set of smoothies to go on it

As I already have a set of slot mags but always wanted the wider 10inch . He wanted the rear tyres from my wheels and I wanted the wider slots , so a deal was struck that suited both party's .

The wider rears

So on Saturday I drove up to Suffolk to meet Lee at a farm that has lots of small units to rent , when I got there Lee showed my around the unit , he shares with a friend .

Lee has always had an interest in VW Busses and Beetles , and only got the truck as his other half liked the look of the truck his friend was selling . He told me he had started working on it but just couldn't get the same enthusiasm for the truck as he did on the VW's

One of the busses

And one of the beetles

The truck had a V8 and 4 on the floor

After we swoped over the rear tyres onto his smoothies, his front tyres hadn't arrived so he found a set of 15inch tyres to put on the wheels as a temporary measure so it could be moved . I had to take a picture as it looked so funny

The front tyres were 195/50/15 way to small but at least it could be moved

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

So Sunday morning I unloaded my car and carried the wheels out the back . I then fitted the rear wheels on the truck and rolled it out of the carport .

More slots than a Las Vegas strip

This shot shows the difference in size from the old size to the new ones

So my next job was to fit my gas tank . When it was made the outlet pipe was a little small, so I had a chat with Colin at my bike club . For those who also read Grizz's thread he's the guy that also did his exhaust pipes . I had given him the tank and had asked him to change the fittings .

This is the new feed outlet

This was were the old outlet was its now a drain plug

As I don't like the idea of the aluminium tank rubbing on the new paint on the chassis , I decided to fit rubber gasket between the two

Gasket made from the rubber

Then glued in place

Tank then fitted in place

The tank in and rear tyres on

So that's it for this weekend

Sorry, but I have to say, I love these new rears wheels.

They are seriously wide. And the alloys look good.

I like the new rear wheels n tires.
I have a question ,
if you get a flat tire
will the U bolt that holds the rear axel in
drag on the ground keeping the truck from moving ?

I plan on ether fitting an extra inch lowering block , or cutting off the excess. I will do this after I try the bedsides to check out the stance , and how it looks .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Martin, an extra lowering block will make it worse. Your "scrub line" on 15" rims is about 7 1/2" from the centre line of your axle, so you currently have 1 1/2" of axle tube, 2 2/4" of control arm, 2" of lowering block and 1" of nuts and lower shock mount, (1 1/2 + 2 3/4 + 2" + 1" = 7 1/4) if you add another 1" lowering block you'll be at 8 1/4", if you get a rear puncture your suspension will hit the road before your wheel rim and "jack" your truck. Not ideal

Thanks Ian once again your wealth of knowledge comes in handy . But best of all you share it with others . If I look at the picture of the rear I see what you mean . I will cut the u bolts down and not fit another 1" lowering block once again Ian thanks .

I suppose that's the trouble with running with 15" wheels , but I always wanted the wide slots and when a set came up I couldn't resist them .

Martin,

What size are your front tyres and could they be for sale? I think that my new ones are a touch short and am struggling to find a cost effective alternative.

Let me know.
