Replacement Steering Wheel Options

Any ideas for a red one to replace this one? Of course, if I could find a halfway decent (and very reasonably priced) used one, that's my preferred Course of Action. In the highley unlikely event that I will find a nice, reasonably priced used one, I'm looking for suggestions/pics. I think many GM wheels will fit, but will defer to those who have already done this for their guidance and wisdom regarding fit and operability...(I want the horn to work when I push the center button.) Thanks.

I went with a 1959 Impala Steering wheel...I think you can get red ones, they are expensive though...I got this from a fellow in Missouri who refurbishes them...my husband still does not know what this wheel cost...Marla

Well, Marla, when you dump this guy, let me know....what a GREAT spouse you must be to buy such nice things for your hubby. Very nice, but trying to get out of this as inexpensively as possible. Its an all original survivor truck and I'm trying to keep that "45 year old truck" look to it, so part of my challenge is to find used parts vice new ones. Thank you for your help.

67 impala steering wheel. I modified a 67 68 cst button to fit the impala horn ring. It is black but had it photo shopped in red .

Look at 80's style Camaro wheels. You can probably find a nice red one for $50 to $60 bucks.

Many thanks. I have a 71 w/black interior that has a mid 80s truck steering wheel on it that looks very good, but can only find them in black. Mid 80s Camaro probably my Course of Action.

Not near as impressive as those Impala wheels (Surprised they had such an original look). But maybe less expensive.

What about this? These look great on our trucks. They are monte carlo/nova/chevelle, etc. from 68-77 I think. Some have chevrolet script, others have nova or monte carlo or whatever. This one is on ebay right now.

Thanks. I've since done a search on the board....lots of great ideas. Surely I'll stumble across something at swap meet for significantly cheaper. Would like to get out of this for under $20. The "hunt" is the fun part...sometimes.

I appreciate everyone's opinion, but I guarantee you, I will put a nice looking steering wheel on my truck for less than $20. It may not be an original 67-72 wheel nor a repro one, but it will fit and it will work. Any fool can throw money (if they have it) at an issue and make it go away.

Sometimes doing it right requires investment. That might be time or it might be money. Any fool can do it quick and dirty. Dismissing someone as a fool for taking the time or spending the money to do something right because you're OK with it being round and turny doesn't make sense to me.

But back to the topic, when I bought my Camaro it came with a blue Comfortgrip wheel that was incorrect and that I replaced, but now can't find. But with a blue interior and its smaller diameter it would actually be a good choice. You probably could source a horn button from a Sprint if it's a GMC. And of course other colors are available to match whatever your own interior is. I think only Corvettes actually got color-keyed, but they're repoped.

I think there was a red comfort grip on the parts board the other day (?)

Again, just saying on something I enjoy driving I usually go ahead and spend a little bit to get a nice wheel. It's what you touch when you drive the truck, and the right wheel can make all the difference in the overall feel of the truck. .. just my .02 worth.

That's what I like about this site, there are so many people that know practically everything about 67-72 Chev/GMC trucks including what is right and what is not, and more importantly, willing to share it; many times without even having to be asked to do so. That's very generous of them and speaks volumes about their character and the quality of person that participates in this site. Again, your opinions are greatly appreciated.

I have a perfect steering wheel in my garage right now from a mid 80s Chev truck that will look very nice should I choose to use it. I paid $2 for it at a swap meet a few years ago. There was nothing said about finding a nice factory wheel for $20. What I said was that I'd find a suitable replacement for under $20. I'm $18 to the good!! Although, still considering the duct tape recommendation.
