Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I'd like to order a set and get them painted the lower body color. I've seen them on a few trucks, but nothing recently. Any of the gang have a picture or two I can see where and how they mount up?
This is what Classic Parts is selling. http://www.classicparts.com/1960-66-...tinfo/65-565/# Thanks Jake

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I dont have a pic but they bolt to the bumper brackets and lay long ways from left to right, covering the brackets. They make a nice transition when installed.
I will do these when i get some extra $.

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
Jake , they only used those covers from 1963-1966 . If you have a 1960 or 1961 GMC you have different sport bumper brackets. I dont think your going to be able to use 63-66 brackets on a 60

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I just saw that yesterday. I was trying to figure out how to mount them. I fouls a couple of pictures on the 'net. Are the 63-66 bumper brackets inter chanable for the '60 model?

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I have not physically checked but I would guess no. 60-62 frames are wider making the bolt hole location in the bumper further out. I would think if you want to adapt these covers to your 60 it would be easier to modify your existing brackets with a tab or something to mount them. Using the 63-66 brackets on a 60 bumper will space the pans out to far anyway if they fit at all. Personally I think for a 1960 it looks fine without them. I think it confuses people at car shows when you add things to a truck that don't belong on a nice looking stock vehicle , just my 2 cents.

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
Oh wow I just saved a bunch of money by switching to non-bumper brackets.....apologies to GEICO
So much for that plan - oh well 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. Sure would have liked to add them -

If you CAN'T weld, drill holes through in the appropriate location, get a piece of Home Depot angle iron and cut mounting tabs, drill holes in the tabs, screw them to the brackets and bolt the covers to them. No reason in the world you can't put them on if you like the way they look. Personally, I like the way they look--it makes the back of the truck look "finished." They made them for step-side and fleet-side beds, and they're different. -Brad

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I used those covers on my 1960 stepside. I just made up some scrap brackets that bolted to my non-stock bumper brackets and they look completely original from the top. Since these pictures were taken I've replaced the bolts with button head bolts.

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
I used a thin piece of stainless hit with a fine sand on a d.a for a satin look and bolted it on with stainless harware. I didn't make any bends in it. I just went wide enough to tuck it in under the body and the bumper.

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
So did 60-62 trucks have covers?

Re: Rear Bumper Bracket Covers
No covers although there was a 90 degree piece of sheet metal bolted between the bumper and the brackets that was used as a deflector of sorts
