Ideas on what is causing my tilt wheel to tilt stiffly?
Recently the tilt wheel has become hard to tilt.
It's not wobbling or shaking side to side like the joint is broken or bearings that have fallen apart.. Just started doing it recently and has been working great up untill now. Guess it's time to start ripping it apart, but I was curious if there is something common that I should be on the lookout for when I rip it apart. Thanks!

Sounds like one of your bolts in the support assembly has backed out.

Stiff operating tilt column
You need to greese the pivot pins.
Pull the steering wheel off, remove turn signal & tilt levers. carefully pull the outer sheet metal coller off the tilt section. May be able to use a slide hammer catching the rolled lip on top of coller. Then you need to pull the pivot pins out of the side of the column & greese. If you just remove 1 at a time column should remain together for you. They make a small puller to pull the pins but a small socket, some washers and the correct size screw will work. |

I'm going to start pulling it apart this afternoon so hopefully the pivot points don't give me too much trouble.

I used a body work slide hammer and hte right sized machine screws to remove them pins in my truck worked good I had to apply heat to one with a propane torch thou it was stubborn.
And be sure to take that spring out You will see a round piece of metal the size of a nickel with a sqaure hole in it i used a screwdriver that fit in it but stopped before it went trou and pushed it down and turned it it has notches that it will slide out of |

I used a small piece of channel to pull mine out. Get one just wider than the pivot, drill a hole slightly larger than a 10-32 screw. Get a 10-32 screw and nut, thread it into the pivot, then turn the nut against the channel. It should pull it right out.

My tilt van column is an 8-32 thread. I drilled and tapped a piece of 3/8-16x12" all-thread, found a long 8-32 screw and threaded it into the end of the all-thread, then cut the head off and filed off the burrs. I slid a weight over the all-thread and put a couple of nuts on the other end...voila! A custom-made slide hammer.
