62 c10 8/4 short bed

Hi everyone! Well
I've been lurking just like everyone else for awhile. I've finally been able to buy one of my all time favorite pickups and start making some of the changes many of us have seen here on the boards and anywhere else or maybe never seen. I'm not afraid to cut an weld where many stop but this build will be a driver and tow a 21' foot bass boat. Safety is a huge concern and always on my mind. I do not want be doing 75mph on the highway and have a weld break and cause someone to get hurt. I've got teenage boys so they may drive it on occasion. My goals to start are I plan on air bags and get pretty low. Probably not going to lay frame but we'll see. Mild sbc 350, gear driven timing with 700r4 I snagged from a 90 suburban. I'm starting with an original 74k 62 c10 fleet side long bed farm truck. 235 cylinder with 3 on the tree. This truck came from Washington state and its the very clean.

I've already started and I'll do my best with the pics.
Thx, Tony

Glad to be here. I'll be using your ideas on rear disc brakes. You have some great examples to follow!

Made the rough cut to my layout lines then used a grinder to get right on the lines.

Keep it coming. I have a 62 longbed, but haven't seen photos of anyone take one down to a shortbed. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this project.

Re: 62 c10 8/4 short bed

I've gotten a little more done since my last post. It was warmer last weekend so I degreased the frame a bit more and hit it with the pressure washer.

I started coming up with some .25 thick plates to weld on both sides of the "Z".

Re: 62 c10 8/4 short bed

Wow nice find on the 60-61 hood! Do you have any better pics of how you dealt the the x portion when shortening the frame? Also are those s10 hubcaps I see in the first couple pics?

Re: 62 c10 8/4 short bed

I haven't really had a chance to organize my pics yet. But they are almost all in my photobucket acct. If you go to the link I'm going to leave you should be able to browse through the pics I've got so far.

Yes, they are S10. Nice work so far, and great score on the hood!

Not much got done tonight. I did get my plasma cutter mounted on the cart below my Mig welder. I picked up a small filter/water separator and made a mounting bracket for it so it would be easier to connect the air line to it. I forgot a 3/8 pipe nipple while at the store so I couldn't finish the job tonight but I'll pick one up tomorrow after work and post a pic.

Thx for the confirmation on the hub caps! This is the hood style that I felt I could not compromise on. From the time I first saw one, it had to be on the truck I build whenever I had the chance to build one. The funny thing is I can't get any love for this hood from any person I know. The only one who likes it is my Mother in law! Fortunately my wife tells me, "It's ok honey, it's your truck!" Which is cool because as far as I'm concerned that hood makes it for me!
