How to check if they are worn?
Rebuilding my entire front suspension on my c10 because I am putting a 6.2 diesel mated to a th400/Gear Vendor which gives me 6 speeds. I am in it for the fuel economy so let's forego the obvious fact that it is not powerhouse.
So with the added weight on the front end some folks on here said I could/should only have to change the lower control arm, coil spring and possibly the outer tie rod end using ones from a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. Is it still ok to use the 1/2 ton upper control arm in combination with the 3/4 or 1 ton components? How do you check for wear on the dog bones (in attached photo)? I already have a Dana 3/4 ton rear axle in the truck. I understand this is only a 1/2 ton platform so I am not going to do anything out of bounds with the truck to damage the frame. Thank you ahead of time for any help. |

Re: How to check if they are worn?
You could always leave it 1/2 ton. Any reason that you want to put the heavy stuff under it? You are looking for economy no need to ad they big parts.

Re: How to check if they are worn?
I do see he mentions going diesel, so I think the extra weight is his worry.
I don't see a huge negative to going with the heavier stuff, but if its only the ride height your worried about, you can just go with the heavier spring and keep the other parts 1/2 ton. If you were towing or off roading with it, then I'm sure the 3/4t parts might live a little longer.
