ive got a new gm 350 crate w/HEI, gm parts counter tells me to run the r45t, my chiltons and other autopart stores says to use the longer r45ts. im running the shorter r45t with no problems, didnt want to chance the longer plugs hitting top of piston. just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.

If I remember right, the parts store actually changes plugs between '71 and '72. Not sure why really. Of course my heads were off of a '72, the block was '75, and the truck was a '68! If it's a new GM crate motor, go with what GM recommends for that motor. Don't worry about the year of the truck.

I may be wrong but I thought the difference between the r45ts and the r45t was that the ts was a peanut plug(with a tapered seat) and the t was a standard plug with a washer. I run the r45ts in my gm crate motor.

TS is a tapered seat plug, no difference in length as far as i know

T is for the tapered seat and
S is for and extended tip
X is for a wide gap

I always run the TS plugs myself they seem to me to burn better

I'd rather run NGK plugs, can use different ones for wheather change. Out here it helps.
