Help me paint my hubcaps

I am painting my dog dish caps this week. Does anyone have a NOS or really nice original they can look at for me?
What shade of black? When I look at photos of NOS ones they almost look gloss black. But most used ones look satin, I assume that's just from being outside? Or are they a satin black?
In the outer ring, does the black come up the little lip, or sit entirely flat in that ring?
How about in the center, does the black just sit down in there or come up the outer ring a little?

1971 Chevrolet stainless. At least that is what I am trying to mimic.

Re: Help me paint my hubcaps

I taped mine up with 3M 06405 vinyl masking tape then scuffed and rattled canned them with trim black from SEM. I also did the headlight surrounds the same way and liked the results. Look at my blue truck thread to see the results.

Re: Help me paint my hubcaps

Here's a FAQ thread with info on painting Chevy hubcaps.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=455805

In other threads, I've read that Ford engine blue and Krylon True Blue #1910 are close matches for the bowties. The black on mine when new was what I'd call satin if I recall correctly. Maybe even flat. They did get a little shinier as they were waxed many times but never approached gloss or semi-gloss.

Here's a pic on one of my originals. Note that the black appears a little out of register with the recessed area, However, only the flat portion of the black and blue recessed areas should be painted.

EDIT: Added second pic. Looks like the black may extend slightly over the curved areas, but that probably just reflects 1969 quality.
