72 SWB dually
Hello everyone i have spent the better part of this morning looking on line and i can not find any numbers for 1 ton short bed dually trucks that chev made in 1972. The guy im buying the truck from says its a factory short bed dually and the fram wasnt cut and i cant see where the fram would have been cut either. So i just wanted to ask you all if Chev made any c30 dually short beds?
Thanks and happy Saturday |

Re: 72 SWB dually
No short bed duallys.
In fact,... 1-tons were at least a 133" wheelbase (or longer) compared to the 127" wheelbase on the regular longbed trucks. Look at the SPID in the glove box. Do you have any pics?

Re: 72 SWB dually
The truck was locked so could look at the glove box and didnt take pictures i had left my phone at home u was walking my dogs. Just was by chance that i saw it. I disnt think they made duallies with short wheel base but one friend said they may have for tow trucks but i looked in all the files i have and googled and nothing. If its a true c30 dually short bed it must be the only one ha ha ha

Re: 72 SWB dually
I agree, that's a 133". There were longer duallies in 1972, so in the dually sense it is short. But not short in the 1/2 ton SWB sense.

Re: 72 SWB dually
The rear crossmember was cut into and frame rails were cuts flush with the member.
All pre 1972 are cab chassis , the dually term is from the 73 and up trucks with the wide rear axle ( dually fenders ) on a std bed.

I realize certain regions are different, just pointing out that here a dually is any truck with dual rear wheels.

Re: 72 SWB dually
The pre 1972 bruchure they have them listed as cab chassis or dual wheel , the spid have them listed as R05 dual wheel conversion.
Here is the 1973 Chevrolet brochure with the Big Dooley . The " Dually or Dooley Wasn't used in print until after 73 . No problem how or what you call them dual wheel or dually

Re: 72 SWB dually
In the C/30 world, a 133" WB is a SWB and a 157" is a LWB. The factories traditionally offered two wheel base options on their light truck lines throughout the years.
GM coined the term dually, and it was when they first made DRW pickups. If you've been around that long, you'll remember the name was "Big Dooley". Years later when DRW pickups caught on with the "Truckin'" scene, the term dually was coined by the magazines
