the cashier made me pull the rockers off or he would charge me an additional $30 bucks

so here is the bill breakdown

$38.99 - Cast Iron Cylinder Head

$ .16 - Admission Tax

$ 4.99 - Core Charge

$ 3.41 - Environmental Fee

$ 3.79 - Tax

=====================

$51.34 TOTAL

first he quoted me like $65 bucks just for the head before all the BS fees with a ONE YEAR WARRANTY (I tried really hard not to laugh, and simply said No Thank You)

In case any of you may be considering such masochism I took a few notes on what I saw today in the yard that you may find useful:

so we start by removing the #1 Exhaust valve, yes she was running lean, but after the wire wheel treatment we see the same pitted condition as our original Vortec exhaust valves, so at least they are consistent

then we removed the #1 Intake valve and we already expected the intake valves to be in better shape than the exhaust and this one was, it also was consistent with the first set of Vortec valves we already have, condition wise

Don't worry I aint gonna bore you with pics of all the valves, so we move on to the chambers, after all we gotta know if this head is good or is there yet another Pick N Pull expedition in our near future

for this process we move out to our [ahem] "Organic" Outdoor Facility

Pleased to report #1 chamber looks a good!

alright 2 for 2, we're half way there, lets keep going

and the third chamber, properly referred to as cylinder #5 is good too, though it started out a bit weepy (no idea what the heck that was all about, maybe me shooting PB Blaster inadvertently in there when removing the vlave

cool, 3 for 3 and no cracks, so how did the 4th one turn out?

I'll tell you all tomorrow, had to take the kid to piano practice, lol, and I'm so tired I really don't want to clean it right now cause it's late, it's been a long day, and I would just half @ss it, and I don't want to do that, so must rest

got home today and had to clean and inspect the fourth, technically chamber de combustione numero siete

and I am pleased to report all is good in the hood as far as the eye can see

note this rascal gave me a bit of a scare at first, hey what do you expect from junkyard parts right

the intake valve looked yukie too but cleaned up real nice

if there are any Valve Whisperers in da house, please chime in, can you read what this valve is trying to tell us?

the final #7 combustion chamber looking good, check out that shinny head man, I am getting good at this, couple more cracks, couple more replacement heads and I'll be able to go Semi Pro at this

alright Gentlemen this concludes Phase 1. aka the Eyecrometer Inspection

and now we move on to the Magna-Flux-Capacitor DYI Test phase

this is a little SPOTCHECK Kit I assembled using the following three products for just shy of $75 ducates (Note: their official kit runs $130 - must come with pixie dust cause it has the same products in it) got this from a local place called Grainger.

Amazon sells competing products for about $35 total but its Hazardous cargo and must be shipped by truck, and I didn't have that kinda time folks.

Come on out to N. Ga and you can take apart the original 350 from my wife's 72 Malibu convertible and tell me why with only 55,000 miles on it I could not keep oil in it . Rather than rebuild it I bought her a 290 HP crate motor for less money than the rebuild was going to be .
