Seam Sealer! Where does it go?

I got my cab all in primer and am ready to do some seam sealing. I just wanted to double check where it goes before applying it. Should all lapping sheetmetal get some just in case?

The gap at the bottom needs it but should I go up the seam and over?

Should I do any here?

Ive seen some here. How crazy should I get?

Our old truck had some here

Around the top of the drip rail for sure. Flow it in nice and thick.

Who did the body work?

There is a 3M self leveling seam sealer for the drip rail that's made just for areas like the drip rail where a clean painted area will be seen , Body seam sealer should be used in the other areas you pictured . Also laid into the windshield opening at the 2 upper and lower seams where again your work will be seen . Also up under the dash where you have overlapping panels and the inner and outer areas of the cowl , and you should really water test the cowl before doing final paint work to ensure the rain water will flow out and drain and that you have no leaks into the cab . Above the doors is another area where s nice clean application is done as it to will be seen . I always use seam sealer on the floor and toe panels as needed and you can reach inside the side vents and apply taking care not to seal up the drains in the process .

I do know that! Any recommendation on what to use? I bought some 3m self leveling for the drip rail since its 2 part and should flow out nicely. It'll just take some work on the vertical pieces.

I'm doing the body work. Does it look that terrible?

Your body work looks fine , Just remember prep, prep, prep before any paint gets sprayed ! Your arms should. Look like Popeyes before its ready for paint , my question is when you replaced the rockers did you have the doors on or test fit them ?

Re: Seam Sealer! Where does it go?

Any tips on smoothing out sealer on the parts I'll see it? I bought fusor 800 dtm for general use. Would you put sealer over epoxy primer or bare metal or does it matter?

I had the door off and on many times when I replaced the rocker panels. Here's an OK picture of the lines:

Re: Seam Sealer! Where does it go?

The door looks tight at the top rear but it should be ok by the time your done adjusting it, sealer goes over epoxy primer . I have a stainless detail putty knife I use for body seams that show , you can also wet your finger with water or lac thinner ( try it on a separate panel to see which works better ) to smooth out the area . The factory didn't go crazy trying to make them perfect when they were sold new .

My bad, I mistook the self-leveling with the other. Baby work look bad? Heck no, it's refreshing to actually see what rockers and corners actually look like, lol.

That index is so awesome.

I recently took some great advice from SS Tim and put it in the bathroom rack and was putting in tabs, but that was kind of slow going...

Oh, and not seam sealer in the bathroom, the manual

Re: Seam Sealer! Where does it go?

Since I painted my truck, I noticed that the paint cracked on both doors at the window hoop where it meets the door. It probably wasn't necessary to use a seam sealer in this location when our rucks were built because they used a different type paint. I used a modern base coat clear coat though and the color coat and clear cracked a tiny bit due to flex when the door was opened and closed. I have always wondered if seam sealer might have prevented this.

Re: Seam Sealer! Where does it go?

I taped the outside of any joints that got seam sealer. Then used a bondo spreader to wipe the sealer, pull tape off while the sealer is tacky it makes a nice joint.
