Short air cleaner riser?
I have an Edelbrock manifold on my K20 and while the stock air cleaner fits (barely) I would like to put a taller element in but due to lack of clearance its a no go. Before I cut down the stock riser is there a stock application that uses a shorter one from the factory?

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
I've seen some on later year small block trucks (square bodies) that are only about 1-1/2" high but still have a breather hose. I'm not sure of the diameter.

Find a drop base air cleaner.
Look here for different ones. https://www.google.com/search?site=&...84.ZvQMIm1pgVA |

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
I've got a stock TBI riser off a '93 on my '72 with a Q-Jet. You might hit a junkyard & see if one of those can be modified easily to fit your needs before cutting your original.

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
Looked thru my pics, & I do not have one where the riser I'm using is actually visible. I'll try to get one tomorrow evening.

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
I did the same thing, on my big block. I even got the valve covers off the tbi and put them on using the same grommet hole for the riser/breather

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
I assume if you are looking for a taller filter it is an open element and not the OEM enclosed filter housing?
My favorite is a 67-72 Camaro open element filter. $75 gets you one with a paper filter on RockAuto. This is a drop base that works on Holley (dual feed) and Q-jets. It has hookup for valve cover breather. I ran one on my big block '70 with a 5" K&N filter that easily fit under the hood. No spacer required.

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
Still on the hunt, the NOS order was cancelled due to lack of stock.
I am actually wanting to use the stock housing with a little bit taller element that will leave a 1/2 inch gap between the top and the lower housing. Way back when it was a cheap option to get more air to the engine but still look stock at a quick glance. With the lower housing still covering the majority of the filter it offers some protection and doesnt get soaked with mud or water when off road which is an issue with an open element when not using an outerwear of some kind. |

Re: Short air cleaner riser?
Look into a 70-72 Camaro dual snorkel air filter. It was the Z/28 or 396 (402) standard filter setup. It has a 3" x14" element so much larger than the truck. Same base as the open element GM filter RockAuto has it for $170 and they have a Fram Air Hog oiled cotton gauze element for $2. Yes, $2.
With the drop base it should work with the factory spacer and have significantly more air flow. I have one in the box waiting for my 427 rebuild... ![]()
