So many answers to one simple question....
I saw a wet spot on my garage floor today and cringed as I crawled under to see what was possibly broke or leaking, to my delight, it was only one of my old old gas shocks in the rear that had bit the bullet and was dieing a slow death, I've been meaning to replace the rear shocks and now is a perfect time.

Stock? I've used Monroe Magnums on several rigs and have no complaints. The last ones I bought 3-4 years ago were made in USA, too.

I'm pushing around 380HP and I'd describe my driving as "spirited" lol. Wondering if a Monroe or KYB are going to be enough shock for my liking? Read good things about Belltech, but they also run almost twice as much. Thoughts.

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
I just put KYB Gas-A-Just on mine. Went from a mushy wallowing ride to a very well mannered, just right ride. One note: my truck didn't come with a sway bar, to my amazement the kyb's do a great job of preventing the body roll. Gotta say, I used to be a monroe fan, but I have had two experiences in the last couple years with poor quality control. My last two sets of shocks were KYB and I couldn't be happier. If you want a slightly soft (stock) ride get the KYB Excel-G Still a gas shock, but has an OEM style twin tube design. Personally I like the Gas-adjust monotube, it gives my truck a solid but not harsh ride like a truck should feel. I think it compares very well with a modern truck ride.

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
KYB Gas-A-Just, just because that's what everyone else always says so that's I installed, and the ride is decent and firm and compliant.
Rides nice (for a '70 GMC), but still was able to soak up a construction site that made my Corvette bottom out (arg!) without a problem.

"solid but not harsh ride like a truck should feel"
That would describe very well the ride I am going for. I'll take a look at the Gas-Adjust mono tube. Do you have part numbers for these?

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
I just checked and Rock Auto has the KYB's Gas A Just for 40.00 +- Canadian and they are great to deal with.
I want to replace the shocks on my truck and the KYB's sound like what I want too.

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
Ridetech makes some awesome adjustable shocks. More expensive but they were worth it.

I know rockauto give CND prices, but are you paying any duty or import on orders from them?

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
KYB KG5409 is what i used for the front. KG5419 for rear. These came with new frame mount studs too. if you look up shocks there these are listed in the "increased handling/perfromance" results.
I used Rock Auto, and be sure to print the sale flyer to get a rebate if you buy 4.

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
No what you pay them is all. Everything is shown and explained at checkout. I just received my first order from them yesterday and no charges at the door and in fact the Postman brought the package. I paid using PayPal with US funds I had in my PayPal account.

I think the front would work for me, but for the rear I think I'd like something with a shorter compressed length. I'll take a look to see if I can find that shock in a touch shorter length with the same travel specs Edit: found it KG5416 has a compressed length of 11.77" as apples to the KG5419 at 12.56" This will give me 3.73" of travel on the compressed side and 2.96" of upward travel, which I am comfortable with. I'd like to have a little more travel in the from before I hit the full compressed length, but that is the shortest option KYB has.

Re: So many answers to one simple question....
Got my order for rockauto this morning, very smooth transaction, no surprises at the delivery. Thanks for the recommendation. Now to find time to do my ball joints and get the new shocks mounted.
