Need Pictures to Determine Tire Size

I will be running 15" wheels and am looking for some pictures to show tire sizes...my truck is a 1950 chevy. It's moderately low with a mustang ii front suspension and a 4 link in the back...i would love to see some pictures of 255/70/15 or 275/60/15 all the way around. Really would like to see pictures of any tire combo on 15" wheels. I can't seem to find many pictures with 15" wheels that also indicate tire size...thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

i like a lot of rubber on a truck tire, it helps soften the ride and imo looks better
i run P235/70R15 which is a tad bit smaller than your 255/70r15 on front and your 255/70r15 on back on my 58 truk
the spare is 255

255/70/15's on 8" wheel vintiques rear, 215/70/15's on 6" front.
255's on the front might be a bit big,not look to good, imo.

Here is a close up of the rear tire. (Hope it's not upside down). I need to run a 1" wheel spacer or the inner side wall will rub with any load. Fenders are uncut and no tubs. Wheels are 15X7 with 4.25" back space. Artillery wheels coming soon to to a truck near me.

It shows up right side up on my photobucket page but flips when I post it. I've reworked the thing twice and it's still upside down when I'm finished.

Unless you are playing farm truck or going mudding a 255 is way too big for the front of any AD truck. Nice on the rear but I'd go with a 215 or 225 at the absolute largest on the front on a lowered truck. I've run 195 and 205 14's on 14x7 rims on mine for years with 255x60x15 on the back with 51x8 rims on the rear.

This is a 215/75/15 that I tried on mine for size and to try the hubcap out.


With the 205-60-14 on the front a few years ago.

So glad I asked about this, I have zero prior experience with these trucks. I have always fooled with 67 and newer. I realize now that a 255 70 15 is a lot of tire for these trucks, and way to much for the front as you guys have pointed out. I'm kinda leaning towards 275 60 15's on the back now that I see the pictures. I see them on 67-72 trucks all the time, and I always thought the sidewall looked a little short, but I think they will look different on these trucks. Any one have any pictures of these on a 47-55(1st). Again thanks a lot for the pictures, nothing like a good visual.

15x8 Chrome Smoothies 3" BS on 275/60r15's

15x7 black smoothie's 4" BS on 205/75r15 1.2" ww frt and 235/75r15 1.5" ww rear (I need to get updated pics now that the new motor is in it). I'm not too crazy about the 205's upfront on the 7" wheel. I should of gone for a 5-6" wheel or slightly larger tire (rim is too wide for the tire but looks OK)

I know the OP was asking about AD trucks but your post is a BIG help to me. I think I've told you before that my suspension setup will be EXACTLY the same as yours(?) Fatman Fabrications IFS and a flipped rear end. That's your setup, right?

Man, your truck appears very low in this photo. Do you have any rubbing issues? What about entering/exiting low driveways and turning?

PS: Looking closely at this picture the tire has sunk into the grass. Do you have a clear aside view on a hard pavement surface you can post? I'd really like to see that view.

yes that is my setup
if you don't have a 5'' c-notch plan on spending a lot of time on the bump stops
i did a 3'' c-notch and needed old school air shocks to stay off the bump stops
i believe i have 5'' clearance under the front of the door

How would you even go about making a 5" C notch? That's deeper than the depth of the whole frame rail, right?

I THINK (???) there is space between the frame top flange and the underside of the bed wood, right? But it's not enough to leave any strength in the frame unless I raise the bed floor, right? And I REALLY don't want to do that if I don't have to. I may have to use air shocks like you or air bags - another thing I have been trying to avoid. Have any good suggestions for me (or for youself if you were doing yours over?)

Oh and PS, in this 2nd picture it looks like the front tires would rub badly on nearly any turn. What say you?

Ok so I see that 15's are not too common these days....Is there anyone running 17's? If so what tire sizes? Any pictures? Thanks!

Just dropped my tires off to be mounted. Will get you a picture soon. Running 275/55 R15 on Crager Delux 69 rims 15/7. Coker 3 1/8" white walls.

I am wanting to go with bigger Cokers in back, bt looks like the whites are 3/4" wider on the tires above 235. I figured 255 on the back and 225 or 235 on the front but am concerned about the differences in white wall width. Looking forward to seeing your pics

i did a 3'' c-notch without raising the bed by adding reinforcement on top of the frame
the added material takes up the space of the bed cross sills and is 1/4'' from the bed wood
a 5'' c-notch would require a raised bed or bigger wheel tubs over the frame notch



as for ''what i would change?''... probably not much
i can barely get the rear wheels off, have to jack up the frame and wiggle the wheel out
i can barely get my pinky in between the fender and rear tires, they never rub though
i'd hate to get a flat on the road though on long trips i carry a small jack and jack stands
surprisingly the front tires do not rub
i believe i have 4.5'' back space on both wheels: 15x7 in front, 15x8 in back
with a gen 3 trans am posi rearend w/ 3.27 gear

EXACTLY the info I needed, thanks so much. I'd already decided I would add reinforcement above the C notch butI didn't know how much I could add without hitting the underside of the bed wood. From the looks of yours it seems like maybe 2"?? Have any pictures of HOW you did yours? Enquiring minds, and all that!

I really don't want to raise my bed floor; though I'll have the option since we are removing the angle strips to sandblast behind them. I COULD remount them a couple inches higher, but ugh I don't like that idea. Mini tubs are a little less "ugh" I won't need tubs for my tires - I don't intend to run real wide tires for my little 283 to drag around. But maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing to have the option to run a wider tire if I ever upgrade to an LS engine in the future.

My tires are 255/50/17, they are all the same size. makes it easier for me to rotate and even up the tire wear.
Tires are 27 inches tall, and sit on 8 1/2" wheels. Fenders are 12" wide inside dimension. tires are 10 inches wide to the widest point.
I did a lot of checking on Tire rack website for specifications of 17" tires. These are the tallest 17 inch tires you can buy for any kind of sport use.
They are one specification only. They came stock on 1996 Impala SS. Check on E bay for best price of $150 each.
I needed a tire that would fit the wheel wells, and ended up with a too wide offset that required me to roll the outside edge for clearance.
Since I basically stole the wheels, I made the truck fit them

In the next pic, you can see that the tires fill the wheel wells pretty good. I used spacers on the front to push the tires out a little.

If you wanted to run 17's, I would recommend 225/50/17 if you were to run 8 1/2 inch wheels all the way around.
