10 bolt front axle repair questions
So, after a quick inspection, i realized both my U-joints are Screwed left and right. Also the axle shaft is able to move about an inch or so on the one side and less on the other. Is that normal or is there a bearing and seal that should be there? I cant find a good blown up axle diagram or a breakdown anywhere, LMC has one but i cant decode that damn thing.
Any help would be appreciated. Also to get the axles out, there isnt any retainer clips in the diff, is there? Never worked on one of these front axles internal wise.. |

Re: 10 bolt front axle repair questions
Hi There, I replaced my front axle u-joints about 10 years ago..... I don't believe they have retainer clips like the rear diff. If I remember right, they were little "spicer" u-joints. Did you try searching utube for a video?

Drain the differential. Pull your lockouts, rotor and spindle. Axle should slide right out. Watch your seals when putting them back in, if you get gunk on the sealing surface you can get a diff fluid leak.

Re: 10 bolt front axle repair questions
Axle seals in the tube. If you get any grit, dirt, or gouge the seal surface while sliding the axles out / in - it can create a leak out the end of the tube at the wheel. Most tubes will have dirt and crap inside between the diff housing and the knuckle.
