Bigger front brakes
I will be running 20" wheels on my 77 1/2 ton Suburban and am wondering if there are any budget friendly big brake options out there that will fill the wheel gap a little better? For example is there a larger brake rotor from a different year truck I can use?

Thanks for the input. That second kit loos pretty cool since I need drop spindles anyway.
I did a little research and found out the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 came with a 4 piston caliper and 14" rotors that have the same 5 on 5 bolt pattern. The local Oreily's chain autoparts store has both the calipers and rotors for just under $100 each so after tax lets say $400. When I put '02 Camaro brakes on my G body 79 Cutlass I had to have the rotors machined down to use as hubs, cost me $100, I could do the same for the stock Chevy truck rotors. I'd have to make some brackets to adapt the calipers to the Chevy spindles, so I'd need a little bit of bracket material and my time. Then there's banjo fittings and hoses if needed. I could probably do the whole front brake conversion for under $600, but again since I need spindles anyway that 13" kit is looking pretty good.

hmmmm, I did the C5 brakes on my 65 Nova and they worked great. Kinda curious how these compare to my Heavy half ton brakes on there now.
Appears to add 2" to rotor diameter.....although I DO NOT like how these rotors are drilled. Yes they'll be clamped in there with a wheel on, still doesn't look right Last edited by gramps77; 05-13-2016 at 01:55 PM. |
