What's the story behind this place?

I had herd that over a year ago they crushed over 30 semi loads of vehicles for scrap. I hope that is not fact. Would be willing to buy a few of those for even what scrap prices were .

I've seen a few places like this over the years. In most cases, there's a reason for them having so many vehicles, they collect them with no intention of ever selling. What usually happens is , the old man dies, and the family "gets rid of the junk". This really frustrates me. When I was growing up in the "Thumb" of Michigan, there was a place owned by two bachelor brothers (Skipinski's), that has 160 acres of vehicles from the 50s to present. They wouldn't let anyone go on the property, (even if they went with you) and if you tell them what you needed, they would tell you to come back "in a few days". Well, "in a few days" never happened, and as far as I know all those vehicles are still sinking into the ground.

Guy at Golden State Parts told me they dumped tons of these parts years ago. Can you imagine? But I also heard from another source that's BS.

I know of nothing like this in the area. In fact, the 67-72 just don't exist in any yard I've seen, of which there's no shortage. If they do they're nothing but a cab and frame. 30 years ago no problem. Wish I knew then what I do now. One guy had a yard full of bodies and frames. Price was right, so he sold all the steel for recycle.

There are more than a few like that here and sometimes you can get in usually around tax time of the year ,I just bought 5 4 nub steelies for $100.00 .

That is amazing....wow, great selection of trucks.
Sadly tho'....this is one of those examples of the hoarders that mostly won't let go so the odds of walking in there and swinging a deal on anything are next to zero.
Usually you have to wait for someone to pass away before this stuff gets re-introduced to the market....unfortunately.
Imagine, if this guy (or this type of guy) decided....hey lets get this stuff back on the road...come and get it...now that would really be something.
Either way....great row of nostaligia steel there.

Set a Google News alert for the guy's obituary, go to the estate sale. That's the only way anyone is getting anything from some of these.

Same way New Yorkers get apartments, we get rust-free projects.

I watched it further to where they were crushing cars... I could not stand it after on ly 30 seconds or so....

Slowly deteriorating in a field is still better than them being crushed 30 years ago. I still see these hoards as being saved by their owners

This video sits better in my mind than when cash for clunkers was in full swing. At the time I worked at a dealership and watched VERY nice cars being intentionally destroyed VIA pouring liquid glass into motor, then one by one revving each engine till it seized the motor up. Before that, I would watch as the dealership mechanics would play bumper cars with them (I'm talking nice cars with no body damage) The government really messed up there. How much more wasteful could we be?! At least the owner of all these cars could say that he enjoys collecting them and sitting them in rows like this. Obviously, to most of us, that is wasteful.......but that's debatable at least!

I well remember the cash for clunkers deal ,they destroyed better cars and trucks than I am driving now .Some people working at some dealerships were able to sneak some of them out though.

The economy was awful and I needed a good vehicle for work. My buddy asked if cash for clunkers would help me. I could go buy a new vehicle with no money and good credit, but it's the payments that I couldn't commit to. I told him, "No, I need clunkers for cash and they are crushing those". Heck, they were getting $2k trade-in and most I saw were worth more than that if sold outright.

I would love to have been able to stand outside the dealerships with $100000 and bought as many of those clunkers as they were bringing them in offering them $2500 for them .I saw many worth a whole lot more than that traded in,it was shameful.

Yup, not only did we not give them to people in true need of transportation through some veting process, but we ensured that NO ONE could use them by blowing them up. Lol. I watched Lexus cars, nice Hondas and toyotas....you name it.....getting destroyed and crushed.
