gmc 3/4 ton hub caps

Recently bought some hub caps off a board member oregon 1967 gmc and i have to start by saying thank you to him, with all the no trust and lying and stealing in this world we were making a deal on these caps and was leary on sending a money order but this man had paid his own money for shipping and shipped these caps before i even had the money order and sent a picture of the shipping info receipt for proof,so those of you with doubt there is still good people out there, thank you again ray, now onto the caps, i have a dana 60 in my truck and the rear hubs are making the caps hit by just a hair from fully seating, had anyone had this issue and what did you use to maybe hit these centers out just enough to clear? Thank you all in advance.

No pics? When you buy GMC 3/4 ton hubcaps online there's a tradition you must post photos of them. ;-) Here are mine. NOS 1970.

Let's make sure what truck and caps you have first. You have a
'67 GMC and the caps are the original inner clip type?

Re: gmc 3/4 ton hub caps

What I see in the photo are 4 GMC 3/4 ton caps, however the white ones are '73-'78 and the silver ones are '69 (but same mold as '70-'72). The popped out center hubcaps used between '69 and '72 are necessary to clear the Dana 60 axle. These will have black paint in the center around GMC letters. The popped in style will not fit '69 thru '72 unless you pop the center out with a rubber mallet of some kind. '73 and later used the popped in style because the taller Dana 60 was dropped in favor of the shorter corporate axle. '73 and newer will not have black paint around the GMC letters. There was a "first design" early '69 3/4 ton hubcap that was not popped out, that was used only on front axles for a short time ( these require a trained eye to spot out from a photo).

Just curious, were those the chrome over brass construction, chrome over steel or the stainless versions? Apparently GM was experimenting with different materials on these hubcaps in the '72-'73 season. Very difficult to tell from photos. I guess it depends when the NOS parts were manufactured, if NOS box is from '69-'71, good bet it is chrome over brass, during after '72, who knows, could be like a box of chocolate.

I know they're the one-year-only or less version, hard to find. A magnet wouldn't stick to brass, but I'm not sure it'd stick to the stainless either, depending on the alloy. How do I check I wonder?

I run the innies (73-75) on my '72 GMC with Dana60 just fine. I like them better than the outie black centers

Maybe I should have said "I prefer innies over outies". Does that make you feel any better. We can have different preferences and still be friends, right? I can't hang around with you or be seen in the same place if you wear the exact same clothes as me. I worry about how people see stuff like that

You know I was kiddin' K. I don't take things like that seriously.

Stating an opinion about something in general is no big deal.

I just hate it when people start hating on other peoples stuff specifically.

A lot of things are not my cup of tea. But if the owner put his time and money into it, I am happy for him.

Now back to the hubcaps.

Painted ones look like this picture. Some were chrome with black/red trim paint.
All are getting hard to find in decent condition.

Dislike is something I have come to terms with.

I find it harder and harder to use the terms "'67-'72 Chevy" and "budget" in the same sentence.

Re: gmc 3/4 ton hub caps

You need to see the back of a 67/68 3/4t-1t cap to tell it from a 1/2t. You need the clip-style wheels to use them.

Yes. These are the caps that came on 69-72s, if they have black centers and are convex. The 73-75s aren't painted in the center and are concave. I've never had a problem fitting any 69-75 cap on a Dana60, but for some reason some do. Never heard of them not fitting an HO52. The '70 caps are no different than '69, '71, or '72 bright-work caps. The painted ones started with argent in '69, then went white till the end...even 73-75s.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will any other type of newer cap can be installed with no trouble? I really want to keep my 16.5 original wheels
