86 Gmc Weighs ?
I know ones here who have weighed their trucks are somewhere in the 3800 lb. category. Now I have not weighed mine yet, but the original owners manual shows a drawing of the basic truck and if I remember indicated somewhere around 3100 lbs, and that is with it stating with all fluids.
Has anyone else seen this in their manual, am I mis-reading it, etc., because I cannot imagine my truck with aluminum intake, heads, water pump, and headers could result in a weight close to 3000 even. Any thoughts. Doug

You aren't saving THAT much weight with those items, maybe 50lbs if that much. A SWB generally weighs 3900lbs without a driver.

If I remember correctly, when I took my truck to the weigh station down the road it was right around 5200lbs.
77 C20, 454, TH400, long bed, wood bed, canopy, dual tanks, pretty much stock everything. Oh yeah, that included me (195) and my son (65). So that would put it around 4950lbs +/- 50lbs. Granted... The canopy is heavier than he!!. It's the original steel gemtop the PO got in '77 when he bought the truck. 2 of us could barely lift it onto the bed of the truck. lol.

That said, I will check my manual again because even though I cannot imagine it weighing anywhere near 3100 lbs. I am just curious what exactly the manual stated. Doug

hey how did another Jersey guy slip in here with 50 some posts w/o me seeing him before?
Fathom blue- nice, 1970 Chevelle & Nova Color , ( I miss her) Kaos is right on the money. in the 1981-1987 range, (73-80's are a li'l heavier) , appx. 3900 for SWB's and a little over 4000 for LWB. thats in the 1/2 ton category. Let me tell you a little tale of the tape about GM cars /trucks. I've weighed a few. My 1985 Scottsdale LWB with typical options and A/C weighed right at 4000# 1964 little box Nova ,2dr., no options, 350, 4 speed 3000# 1970 Nova ,396, 4spd. Typical options, but no A/C ,3600# 1972 Camaro,350,auto, typ options,No A/c ,3600# 1971 Monte carlo SS 454, well optioned, 4050 # you'll hate this .1977 283 Vega,283 all stock with cast iron manifolds ,stock rear & 13"wheels----3000# you'll love this, 1976 Olds Delta 98, all options,455----5100# that includes the Chevy truck classIII hitch that we burned a piece outta the rear bumper to install. Need anymore proof that GM is HEAVY. 1966 Mustang fastback, 289,4 speed, no options,2750# 1969 Dart Swinger 340,auto, typ. options. 2950#

I weighed my 85 before removing or adding anything and it weighed 3960 by itself. Weighed it again a few months later this time with one tank a 1/3 full and the other full, it weighed 3985. My truck is a Custom Deluxe that came with all options. I figure a non power, non AC, non cruise, etc. truck should probably weigh in the 3800 lb range.

Fathom blue- nice, 1970 Chevelle & Nova Color , ( I miss her) Hello crossy, yes there is someone else from Jersey, although seems not too many. Yes, I love Fathom Blue. I had a 70 Fathom Blue SS 396 Chevelle, Solid Lifter L78, 4-speed, 4:11's, recurved dist. & headers. Ripping shifts @ 7,000 rpm's was life at it's best. Oh well, so I guess based on swervin I should be around 3,800 lbs., so the GM manual is just wacky. Looking forward to getting to Englishtown to see what times my truck will run. Later. Doug

anyone know what the weight difference is between the stock steel hood and a fiberglass hood?
also, does anyone know of a place that sells stock style fiberglass front fenders? some that fit well. |

Eric, I in no way recommend these fenders (I never liked their quality, it may have changed...) BUT they do have them here:
