valve cover hole?

I bought a 72 sub. and the other day I noticed the oil press. going
down to 20, and the temp going up.
I looked uner the hood, and some part is missing from one of the valve covers. I thought it was a breather, but the hole is 1",
and all the breathers at the Autozone were for 1 1/4". What is
'posed to go there?

A stock valve cover would have the PCV valve at the front of the drivers side valve cover. At the rear of the passenger side cover would be the fresh air breather coming from the air cleaner to carb spacer.
