Heater box questions: reassembly.

I am finally getting close to the point where I can reassemble my heater box. I bought a gasket set from GMC Pauls. Do those gaskets need to be glued in?

I seem to remember the parts that enclose the back of the heater box held in not only with rivets but with a type of "caulk." What should I use to replace that?

Also, I bought the round rubber gasket that attaches to the heater box around the fan and squishes up against the front of the cab. What is a good adhesive to stick that to the back of the heater box?

I used weatherstrip adhesive and a big worm gear hose clamp to glue and hold the fan seal ring on.

Brush on Contact adhesive should work also.

Thanks couldn't remember the name of the caulk.
I think some call it strip caulk.

I used some of the strip caulk rolled up thin (kinda like rolling pretzel dough) then flattened it out too seal up the metal panels before I screwed and rivits them on.

oh and also used aluminum(no rust)pop rivits where I drilled out the originals.

Don't forget too lube the flaps. And test that heater core.

A thin layer of the caulk around the fan flange also.

If you have big gaps in the heater box around the heater hose nipples now would be the time too address them.
I didn't like the seals I got in the "kit" for that area so I used two differnt sized valve cover grommits.

It was just suggested to me by Frank of Franks Pick um up Parts Board vendor to buy a roll of self sticking closed cell weather stripping to do the box, I haven't looked for that yet so my interest in this thread. He also sells the round doughnut for the fan box that is exact to the original unlike most cheap Chinese imitations, he showed me both and they are way different.

Now i need to know what Gum cord is..

You can pick up gum cords at most hvac supply houses. But you will have to buy way more than you need

Do I still need "gum cord" if I bought the gasket that fits into the groove around the heater box?

I'm guessing if you have a gasket then no need for the gum cord. There wasn't a gasket used from the factory other than the round one

Bad news! It seems I was sent the wrong gasket set. I just emailed GMC Paul's so hopefully he can help me out.

OK, GMC Paul's got back with me and gave me some instructions on assembly. Apparently I do have the proper gasket set. If I cannot figure it out, I'll go for the gum cord.
