It's definitely the way to go!!! It's not a bad job to do your self. If you were closer I would give you a hand with it.

Hi Keith wanted to find out what paint you used on the motor and what process you used. I have a lq4 I'm putting in my 71 c10.

I cleaned the block using Gunk engine cleaner and a lot of elbow grease. After that I took a wire wheel to the block and cleaned off any surface rust and flaking paint. I then painted the block with KBS Coating Rust Seal since it withstands high heat and seals the block up from further rust. I went over the entire motor, heads and all with KBS's Fusion Etching Primer and then top coated it with their Motor Coater Chevy Orange. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Re: Project "Redemption" 68 SWB Fleetside

Progress has been slow lately, I've been pretty busy with some other things! I dropped my rear off to get rebuilt with a Eaton posi and some new 3.73 gears. While I'm waiting to get my rear back, I managed to get my Boyd's welding tank installed today!

Man you aren't pulling any punches this old pickup is getting some top quality parts.
I can't wait for the cab repair it's my favorite part of the restoration process.

Been awhile since I checked this thread. Still moving right along. Is the rear dropmember a 4 link with panhard bar?

Thanks, the goal is to make a really bad a** street cruiser. I knew exactly what I wanted from the start this time so now all it takes is time and money to make it happen It's funny you say your favorite part is the cab repair because that is my least favorite.

It's the trailing arm dropmember version with a panhard bar.

Re: Project "Redemption" 68 SWB Fleetside

Still moving faster than me

I went with the Hobart 210MVP myself. Couldn't justify the additional cost of the Miller 211 for what I'm using it for. But I did really want the dual voltage just for the option of 220 if I need it.

I actually just pulled the trigger yesterday on the Miller 211. I wanted something with dual voltage too and the Miller only weighs 38lbs. so it's very portable if I ever need to lug it around. Got it for a very good price too, after Miller's current rebates I only paid $979.00 shipped to my door for it Hopefully it will be the last welder I need to buy.

My girlfriend's father is actually rebuilding it for me. It's cheap labor but the tradeoff is, I don't know exactly when I'm getting it back as he is doing it on his downtime. There is a place in Jackson that I heard was really good. It's A & D Auto Specialty. Phone number is (732) 367-0116. Apparently they are the go to in the racing community. I'm probably going to use them if the price is right to narrow my rear.

you may be correct about that one. I think they should sponsor some wheels for me at this point!
