Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
To me it sounds like a problem with the booster itself since a vaccum leak likely wouldn't go away temporarily. But check for leaks just in case, on my dads car we were going down the road one time and the vacuum hose popped right off and we lost power brakes completely

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
The booster went bad in my Jeep it acts the same as yours some days good other it is like I have manual brakes, it's on my list. No vacuum leaks, I believe it's a internal valve.

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Got some time between yard work and kitchen redo to work on the Mule. Since the power brake booster decided to die, I figured I would replace it. Got the part in yesterday and got her out, then I discovered my custom setup. Coupling bolt welded on to the booster rod. So that was short lived. Going out to try and find the adjusting pushrod that is correct for the vehicle since I could not find one in my stash.

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Could not find any rods locally, but found one on ebay. So now it is like the military, hurry-up and wait.
Oh well, the AC feels real good about now anyways. Shop got pretty warm today.

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
How did the rear sway bar work on your truck? Or have you been too busy too install it?

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
After getting the yard done, decided to tackle the brake. Luckily it went fairly easy. I had to modify the universal push rod so it would be short enough, but all is good now. The Mule be mobile (and stops) again!
Hopefully will get to the rear sway bar next weekend

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
If we didn't have to modify almost every part, it wouldn't be called building a truck. It would be assembling.

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
It's good to be home, but I sure wish the temps were like up north in PA. Dang it is HOT/HUMMID down here in ole Mississippi.
My wife and I have been on Holiday as some folks say. Went to visit family and spend some time in the Pennsylvania mountains north of my homeland of Pittsburgh. No cell phone coverage, had to text thru a wi-fi connection to make sure the son didn't burn down the house while we were gone. Love the mountains and the tranquility. It's a place called Cook Forest in north central Pennsylvania After mowing the yards this morning, I continued to bake and sweat profusely as I serviced both mowers. I then decided to take the Mule for some cruising time, as well as run some errands. Oh it felt so good to drive it again. Brakes work better than before, so I guess the booster fix works. Hopefully our kitchen remodel will be done this week, then I can get back on truck stuff more, even if it is like working on the surface of a skillet.

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Not a lot of anything being done, except driving. Which is always a good thing. Since the vacation, the Mule has been my DD because the engine gave out in my 02 Silverado. It is a joy to drive the ole dude, except when you get stuck in traffic and 95+ degree weather (and 900000% humidity).
I did have to change out the headlight switch. The reostat portion failed and I losdt all dash lights. I grabbed a new part. At first I thought hmmmm different part# than couple years ago, but it is different brand...so the thought left my head. AS I went to put it on I noticed an extra post, but then again I ignored it. Everything worked fine after I connected it. Turns out they gave me the switch# for a 74 not a 64 C10. Anyways it works, near as I can figure the extra post has something to do with making the the front park lights stay on with teh headlights. Anyhow, just to let you know, it works just in case you are ever in a tight spot. By the way the comment about heat and traffic was due to our little cruise to Baton Rogue yesterday to meet with some truck folks for breakfast. About 280-300 mile cruise to get breakfast. Here is a few pics of the trucks that were there

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Nice looking truck lineup. I gotta hand it to you...I may be getting soft, but I don't know how you do it without a/c. I use a track loader (with a/c) and a tractor (without) for my business. The older I get the more excuses I make for taking the track loader to work every day.

Ya 280-300mi is just around the corner right? The line up looks real nice. Did you all cruise there together or meet there?

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Nothing this weekend except the Mule is still the daily driver. Like many have mentioned elsewhere this weekend was yard and non-truck things. Serviced and mounted new tires on the lawn tractor (pain in my butt).
I love driving the 64 everyday, but it would be nice to have a version of AC that doesn't require me breaking the sound barrier (and many posted rectangular white signs). I'll be glad when the fiasco with Whitey is down. I love this 64, but in south Mississippi in July-September, AC might push the 64 to the #2 love position.

I was just reading that, is yours the original style power steering or a later model added on?

Re: The Old Mule - 64 BBW
Well, the Mule will get to rest a few days. Finally got my son's truck back together. Only took 3 tries on finding a good motor. Nothing special, but a good solid 4.3 in it again. The Mule hasn't seen the inside of his house in a while, so it is time for a few days rest, just in time also. I didn't want to keep driving it in the weather. It makes me nervous driving and you can hear the tailpipes gurgle because the are touching water.
Good part is I have a truck to drive with AC now if I want to...........and I DO!
