Which Lokar to Buy

I'm pondering moving my gears to the floor on a '66 with a STRONG 700R4 passing torque to the diff'l. As you all know, it can be hazardous upshifting manually with a 1974 shifter on the column. Plus, my engine is still pulling strong well beyond the 6000-RPM-point, where my governor will automatically shift. I'm hoping for a more positive feel of control when manually shifting, and I like their looks AND their lockout design. BTW, I've never driven a vehicle having a Lokar shifter in place.

My truck has a bench seat, for all practical purposes--actually a 2005 half-ton Chevy, 2-bucket-plus-center-section seat, with no space at all between the 3 components. The center section will come out by itself, leaving a 2-bucket-seat-look; I'd prefer to not do this if possible.

From those who know gobs more about Lokar than I, which is close to zero, which 1 of the Lokar units should I get? I want positive feel and control.

I don't know anything about Lokar shifters either but I know there are a lot of threads on this subject. You should do a smart search (not the google search that is at the top of the page).

Hi, I hope I can help shed some light on your question.
I build car's for a living and Lokar is my go-to shifter!
I used to go with the tail mounted version and have since switched to the floor mount. The reason for this it seemed that the tail mount would cause vibration in the shifter arm and "annoy" the customer so I went to the floor mount style and will never go back! It is super easy to set up and you can get it to shift all the way to 1st gear (the tail had issues) also if the body ever has to come off all you remove is the linkage and the body comes right off instead of having to fish the shifter through a hole in the floor. My .02 worth.

I have a Lokar as well, but it's a tail mount. It's also a little taller than the one Mark took a photo of. I like the way it shakes. It's very positive in it's feel. It is a little finicky getting into first gear, but once you get used to it, it goes in w/o a problem.

this is truer and truer the longer the stick. I had a 12" tail mounted stick and it was rock solid, the guy who bought the truck convinced me to put on a 23" stick and it wiggled like a widow pleaser.
